Viable for a new player to start with an Assasin?
My nephew wants to start playing GW and he wants his first toon to be an Assasin.
I understand that Factions is pretty much dead - how difficult will rolling a new toon be for him if he plays a Sin? Thanks |

As long as he doesn't try to tank everything, he'll be alright. Just need to know that assassins are meant to get in and get out.
Unless I've missed some memo :P |

hmm i was always interested in playing assassins.. but not quite the thing to start out with if your new. you have to know about hexes, enchantments, blocking, combos, recharge times, all that stuff, to make an assassin effective.
so imo, i would suggest a war or ranger, but whatever floats his boat.. help him out with it and im sure he will be fine |

No...
If he does however try to assume the assassin profession, make sure he knows about Pvxwiki.. http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page |

Sins require placement and knowing your enemies' weeknesses and strengths. They are hard hitting, aiming to do the most amount of damage within the shortest amount of time. They require patience to understand what they are and arn't capible of. You also must understand that you are a support character must rely on you allies (henchmen/heroes and other players) to keep you alive.
Since Factions came out, assassins are often rejected in PUGs as people at first attempted to play them as tanks which sins are the complete opposite. They can die relitivly quickly when targeted due to their lower Al. Overall, I'd say that starting an assassin is probably not the best thing for new commers. I didn't start to get used to sins after about 2 months after Factions came out. |

Good information. Thanks.
I'm guessing the suggestion is to buy Prophecies or Nightfall for him then? I've read where many are saying that Nightfall has a quicker learning curve. |

You need Factions to play Assassin.

Sins aren't much harder to play, nor is the learning curve for any campaign a crucial factor. Assuming you will only be purchasing one of the campaigns, take Nightfall, in my opinion. You'll get a lengthy storyline and more profession options, as compared to Prophecies, though Prophecies boasts a greater number of missions.

It's his game.. Let him start with whatever he likes. The experimenting comes later.

But I think it's only fair that he should be told what an assassin will be like rather than having his hopes crushed when he finds out the truth in the middle of a battle. |
