Do MM players/heroes ever get more than 10 minions anymore?
EDITI know the cap on the number of minions you could have at once is linked to death magic now, and the max players can have with 16 death magic is 10 minions. I was playing through the Ice Caves of Sorrow mission with H/H the other day and noticed my MM hero had 12 minions. He had them for a few minutes while we ran around fighting. I think they just died off on their own. I haven't seen him with more than 10 minions since then. I wasn't using any of those pve-only attribute boosters. The hero didn't even have a +1 death magic mod on his weapon. It's my understanding that those mods are only active while using skills/spells anyway, and they still won't let you carry more than 10 minions at a time. I've seen his minion count jump to 11 or 12 for a few ms before, while he raised fresh ones and existing ones died off. I've never noticed him being able to maintain 12 before. Yes, it happens when one is raised but the 11th quickly is destroyed.

The minion cap is 10 for any character or hero, regardless of you Death Magic level.
When you saw it jump to 11 for a split second he had created a minion while having 10 under his control, one minion quickly died and brought the count back to 10. When you saw it just to 12 for a split second he used the skill "Animate Bone Minions" which will raise 2 minions at a time. This raised it to 12 but 2 minions died quickly bringing the count back to 10. |

We've all seen 11 or 12 flash up briefly (depending on minion spell) but Luny is saying the MM hero was maintaining 12 for a matter of minutes.
That being the case, no, we haven't seen that and it's very weird

The cap sucks and a lot of people quit the game because of it. It took all the fun out of being a necro. There used to be mass armies of 30-40 minions and it was insanely fun. Now it's near useless.

Sorry I didn't think to take a better shot of it. You can count the health bars of minions and spirits. There's 13, including one behind the chat window (one is Livia's spirit, not a minion.) Notice that we have 10% MB (from the cutscene,) and we've killed the OoB boss (notes of what he dropped in chat.) The picture is taken when we're off the ice and heading back up to cross the bridge. Also notice that Olias hasn't just casted his single minion raising spell because it's not recharging. I'm not crazy, right? (well, at least it's not getting worse.) I had something similar happen a few days ago in Dunes of Despair, right after the cutscene at the mesmer boss/gate into the temple area. My nec hero had 9 minions and was casting animate bone minions right as the cutscene triggered. The cutscene didn't break his cast, and after it he was controlling 11 minions for at least 10 seconds before one of them died. The one that died didn't die to the usual insta-kill that happens when you break the minion limit, it degened to death normally after the fight.

Actually the max minions is determined by your death magic rank, if you are able to raise your rank more than 16, via things like cupcakes et al, I dont see why you wouldnt be able to raise more than 10 minos as i dont believe it is a hard limit, it is just at 16, the max is 10 minions

Whoo! Minime The Shadow and mr_stealth, thank you both! That makes perfect sense, as I noticed this after the yak cutscene. He must've raised them as we started the movie.

would a death +1 weapon explain it? i know you can get higher level minions with one, but does it up the max number you can raise?

had 11 for a bit (longer than one dieing) but think it was due to the +1 on my weapons....but thats been the max I have ever had. (and no I didnt take a screen shot of it, so believe or not)

You don't have to count the minions. Just look under Olias's name and it shows 12 minions.
If it lasted more than a second or two it was probably a glitch. Your death magic would have to be 18 for 11 minions and 20 to mantain 12 minions. I believe with consumables getting to 18 is possible, outside of that, I think only 19 is attainable with the +1 death, but even then, I thought it was just +1 when casting not a continued att boost.
