Kick-Start Trouble
Hey guys, I'm having a few problems in-game. My guild, An branch of a Counter Strike Clan *we're multi gaming, we also do Warcraft 3 And Starcraft* is pretty in-active. We ask a lot of our members in my opinion. We require a weird sign up on our website, which they must sign in at least every 3 days, Posting on our forums, and thats a bit much for most relaxed guild wars players. 2 months ago when I joined for CS I was elected guild wars Division leader being as only 3 of our members play and they already headed divisions... so It was really by default . I played for a bit and got used to it since I hadn't played in 2 years. We had gotten a few recruits who we did the whole sign up for, and one sounded very promising, but they ALL went in-active! now our actual guild leader hasn't finished prophecies, him and I only have prophecies, so were pretty lamesauce. What I'm trying to get at is how can I get some loyal officers to help me get this up and running?!?! between the 3 of our "Real" members we've put a lot of money in *Me the least cause I'm poor* I don't want to let this go to waste, I want to be proud of my division, Get some PvPing in, have something to do when I need to escape my tyrannical boarding school staff.
Please give me advice and help guide me towards something my clan can be proud of We have a Hall with a few things, we're Kurz, We have a Vent, A forum, a Website, WHAT MORE DO THEY WANT? Clan Website Last edited by yoyoto; Feb 18, 2008 at 08:04 AM // 08:04.. |

Starting a guild isnt easy. I owned my own guild a few months ago, which ran pretty good (until I didnt have time to run it anymore because of real life issues, and I quit playing GW for a while). Most important thing: recruiting recruiting recruiting. Hours and hours of shouting in LA, ascalon, kamadan and kaineng. I suggest focus on PvE first, because by the sound of it, you are not really experienced GW players (correct me if Im wrong), let alone experienced PvPers (and it is hard to start PvP without someone with experience teaching you the basics).
Recruit till you drop, recruit some more, and get some regular activities going as soon as possible. This can be: helping each other out with missions, capping skills, vanquishing, scrimmages, TA, HA... whatever you want to focus on. Events help to bind the members together. And I am not sure about the Vent thingy. Personally, I only use vent when nessacary (i am in a PvP guild, so I only use vent when we are in battle), because i do not feel comfortable with it. Other times I use the guildchat. If you really want to use vent, make sure not to neglect the guildchat. I left 3 guilds because their entire conversations were on vent only. And maybe you want to cut down on the requirements in the beginning. If you make sure you have a loyal core of members, THEN you can introduce rules such as the sign-up, forum posts etc. I personally would not mind the sign up, because I am notorious forum-addict, but some people just dont like it and prefer to talk ingame. And a last piece of advice (post is getting WAY too long :P): get through the campaigns as soon as you can. New members appreciate it if you help them out, and you cannot do that when you need help yourself There are probably more things to tell ya, but im out of suggestions for the moment XD Good luck with running your guild. |

I'm not experienced, but I'm not inexperienced. I stopped playing for a while and missed out on a lot.... but I used to be very experienced, Idk if I'm allowed to skip the whole clan page login thing, so I guess I need to do more research, get some good PvP builds etc.
Edit: I wish someone could like talk to me in real time and help me get used to things Last edited by yoyoto; Feb 19, 2008 at 02:12 AM // 02:12.. |

I think that really depends on what kind of guild you are looking to create. Personally I wouldn't be caught dead recruiting in LA, Kamadan, Shing Jea, etc. And I think all of my officers would vote me off the island, so to speak. I'm mean, I make new people fill out applications and do a few things with us before I will invite them. I need to know that these new people will mesh well with us, and that we really are what they are looking for. I started my guild with 2 other people that were close friends and then I immediately started recruiting on here and GWO. Post what it is you have to offer and what you are looking for. Do you want to have a PvE guild or PvP? There are guilds that do both, but from what I have personally seen, they rarely do as well as guilds that go one way or the other.
I think one of your biggest challenges is that you are limited on which campaigns each of you have. Since you have so few members, that will really limit you on helping others that join the guild that have all campaigns. Join an active alliance that has the same goals as you do. That gives people a larger player base to associate with. That way, even while your numbers may be small, they will still have people to do things with. Tosha's advice about regular activities is definitely very sound advice. For instance, in my guild and alliance we have hard mode mission night, dungeon night, vanquishing night, and the lead alliance has put on a couple of scavenger hunts that were a lot of fun. These kinds of things generate interest as well and get people together and getting to know each other. Alright, I've talked enough. Good luck getting things moving |

Most important about starting or reviving a guild is not recruiting, as Tosha stated.
It's knowing players and being able to create a common goal for the guild. If people believe that they can achieve that goal in your guild, they will stick around. Be honest about the current low activity and encourage members to refer friends they have to your guild. A guild is build by all members, not just the leader or the officers. Besides this, an inactive leader and inactive officers are sure killers for a guild. It's very visible and people don't like it. Also, if players are away a long time, kick them. They are of no use to you when they don't play and only give an even more inactive feeling. You can make exceptions for valued players when you grow larger (like our guild does). |

you have a long way to go.... thing with guild wars pvp is that it doesn't fall from the sky... failure will only get you more failure... you guys have to work at unlocking your skills and start of with "very noobish annoying" Heros Accent groups and work your way up from there. You can jump into GvG though it might be a bit too difficult.

I've had some experience in multi-division clans. Their main problem are the members themselves. Some play 3 different games, with one as their main, while neglecting the other two. Others play just one, devote their time to it, only to find themselves in an empty guild full of inactive clan/division members. As time passes and games become old, even obsolete, most people move on to new titles and new divisions of the clan are created. With that, members often spread wide and thin among divisions and some of them just don't have a purpose anymore.
IMHO, a good course of action for you would be leaving the guild and finding an active one. If you want to play GW, you'll be of better service to your clan and its new GW players if you have more experience and in-game friends. |
