A large part of the current activity is in the expansion, Eye of the North. Each chapter of Guild Wars will grant you access to more things. For instance,

Factions and Nightfall each introduce two new character professions that you are unable to select with Prophecies - Assassin and Ritualist in Factions, Dervish and Paragon in Nightfall.

As you would imagine, each campaign also has skills for those classes, as well as many new skills for existing classes.

Without buying factions or nightfall, you can't travel to either of the continents, so you won't be able to do missions there.

Eye of the North is the only true expansion, as it adds on to the continent in which Prophecies takes place. If you want to be with the majority of active players, look for Eye of the North, but that's not to say people still aren't doing things in Prophecies. A majority of Fissure of Woe or Underworld groups leave from the Prophecies outpost Temple of the Ages. So basically, each campaign that you buy will grant you access to more things to do.

I can't really understand your post, it has bad grammar and stuff, but I'll try and answer your question.

If you only have Prophecies, then you can't access anything from Factions or Nightfall. This means missions, quests, areas, skills, etc.

I'd have more to tell you if your post was clear, which it isn't so I'll have to leave it at that.

sorry was typing in a hurry. k, so basically the core difference is in the quest, missions and maps. sorry for being noob, but doesn't that give those having nightfall a unfair advantage cause those in NF have "better places" to farm and level?. for example lets say i make a warrior in NF, would the quests for a warrior be totally different from prophecy?. if so. won't that make the game imbalance because a warrior in NF may level faster and have better skills then a warrior in prophecy?

Each chapter is a story in itself except Eye of the North which is an expansion to tie all the stories together for the upcoming Guild Wars 2. Each chapter operates exclusively by itself except Eye of the North which requires you to own a campaign (which you do). Skills are mostly exclusive to each campaign except core skills which are available accross all 4 parts. Armor is exclusive to each campaign except Obsidian armor but no campaign gives you an advantage in armor strength. Items from other campaigns can be used by you even though you don't own that campaign. You won't miss out on anything necessary to play the game competitively by only having Prophecies but you do miss out on the fun and visual extravaganza that arrived in the other campaigns.

Prophecies is a great game all by itself and is worth playing all the way through. If you can afford it the others are a worthwhile investment but if you can't then play on.

And remember, wiki is your friend.

behling, the confusion is that if you look for builds and help and stuff nowadays, you'll find that almost all builds use skills from all three chapters. Most information on the wikis and the forums assume that the player owns all the campaigns and expansion, as this game is 3 years old.

You will see other people breezing through some of the game content that you would be struggling with, because they have access to more skills and heroes and stuff.

You will level the slowest in Prophesies, but that is balanced by the fact that you get a lot of skills for free. But that is not a real problem because you can get to level 20 quite soon. You will not be very competitive in PvP because you will lack many skills and weapon mods.

The limitations of owning only Prophesies is that you're only limited to the professions, zones and skills that are in Prophesies. But they are more than enough for you to be able to enjoy and complete the Prophesies campaign.

Unless you want to do PvP, you don't need to worry about how far ahead other people are. You're starting 3 years later than others, and have access to 1/4 of the content. Try to complete the game and if you enjoy it, you can then decide whether you want to get other campaigns.

There are many important skills in prophecies..

Anyway, Each chapter has its own continent (except for EotN, since it shares with prophs)

well, the difference is that there are less skills to choose from, less available armor sets, and less titles to obtain. that is the only 'real' difference. but, i would recommend getting nightfall, if anything, msotly because i would say it's got a longer/funner story line with many nice elites/skills/armor sets.

anyways, to everyone above me: stop complaining. it's not required that you get all the campaigns/expansions and it's not a guarenteed thing that people are capable of purchasing them (not having the money, for example).

Yes they are totally different games, other then EoTN, they are all stand-alones. If you link them together, then you Prophecies characters would end up with more content to play with. On the other hand, if you say started with NF and have not linked with any of the other games, the you would be limited only to the NF content, like you now are limited only to Prophecies content. Your road A & B example, while being different, ultimately one is not better then the other.

And to answer your title question, you only have access to Tyria and the Battle Isles, fewer professions, fewer skills(including the pve- only ones), fewer titles, no heroes and access to fewer armor skins. Everything else, you can more or less get from other players.

The simple reason for the difference between Factions, Nightfall from Prophesies is this.

2/3 of Prophesies is pretty training stage for the remaining max level content. When Factions came out, Anet realised that people who have played Prophesies would not be happy spending another 2/3 of Factions relearning the game, so the vast majority of Factions is max-level content.

I believe that they over-did this, as the toughness of the first max-level mission (Vizunah Square) in Factions was quite a shock to many people. This situation also created many max level players who had little clue about the game because they were rushed through.

They toned down the learning curve and 5/6 of Nightfall is max-content, with a more steady increase in difficulty. Each campaign has a full "world" or continent and a full story in itself.

When you do finish Prophesies (and Factions and Nightfall), you will still have many max-level content to play with in Prophesies. You can access Underworld, Fissure of Woe, Sorrow Furnace and Tomb of Primeval Kings dungeons. And Prophesies has a few of the hardest Hard Mode zones to vanquish. It also has the biggest "world".

You might also look for bargains on the other chapters if you wish to get them in the future---they have been out for a while so you might get them for cheaper (if you do want to get them).
Dont worry that you are just starting out and that others have been playing for a while, learn the game and then worry about what others are doing. The chapter you have is the best for learning the game, so have fun and play away!
