Default Spending Skill Points

My Ranger is at lvl 12 now, and I have accumulated some skill points ~15pts. But it seems that once in a while a quest gives me some new skills for free.
So when would it be the right time to start spending those points on the skill trainer?

Read this page and this one to see which skills are available through questing. If a particular skill doesn't appear there, you can go ahead and buy it (or use a tome) without regretting the decision later.

Don't worry about spending your points, you can always "reset" it when you are in town.

So, if you are a ranger...the safe stat to spend is Expertise (decreases the energy cost of your ranger skills).

Next to it is Markmanship if you are using Bow and you have Bow skills in your bar.

try spending those points....and try to reset you will see how it works.

If it's your first character i say buy everything and have fun experimenting with new skills as you go along. Skill points are never ending in there accumulation so go get some new skills and enjoy.

You should have enough skill points with questing and lvling through the game to buy the skills you want. As said previously, check the wiki to see which skills are available form quests and avoid buying those. Seeing the question you asked, i assume this is your first character.

I recommend buying skills you want to experiment with, but not buying too much since the cost of skills increases each time you buy one. The price is capped at 1000 gold. So avoid the skills you don't find interesting for now, you can always buy them later and you might find skills you want to buy in towns you haven't visited yet.
