Some N(oob)ewbie questions and help
Hello all,
Since this is my first post let me introduce meself, my ingame name is Portia, I'm an average age guy, and I'm playing GW now for a couple of months. btw sorry for the language I'm Dutch. I started a couple of months ago too play GW, when a friend of mine told me I should buy it... So I bought prophecies, and loved it! We sometimes played together but he was more for NF & EOTN...So yes I bought those too... And with last canthan new year I bought Factions... So the family is complete.. But this is also were I made a few mistakes...Since I have the game I've been playing 1 char.. A ranger/ele. And traveling true all the parts.. So I have heroes from Nf, Eotn... Nice when u play alone..But there's my first question... * to make a good heroes build... U have heroskillpoints to spend, but when your done with that u can buy skills... but what about elite skills? Do you need to be first a char like that hero to get those skills? * Oke I'll first start to finish now 1 storyline before I go further in the game...But when I'm in the ToA and ask If I can join a party as a ranger most of the time I hear I need to be trapper?? Why is that, can't I join with me barrage build?? ( sorry i'm a noob, so flame on me ) * Maybe some-one will guide me once or twice true the UW or FOW.. Sorry for all the question, but what the hell you got too started somewhere.. Thanks, Portia |

Jokes aside now. Welcome to GW and GWG. You can assign attribute points to your heros in exactly the same way you get them yourself. Any skill you unlock on any character (PvE or PvE) through capping or Faction unlocks are available for your heroes on any character. The capped skills for your player characters are however restricted to that character. iE. you have to either cpa the skills on a second character (not heroes) or use a Tome to unlock them even if you have the skills on your primary character. |

Unfortunately, (someoine correct me if im wrong) you cannot unlock skills for hero's (elites) if that skill is from a class you dont have listed as your primary or secondary.
So if your ele ranger, you cannot cap necro skills or unlock them without buying the skills for your hero's or changing your secondary. With that said, to max out hero's skills, the best easiest option is to buy the skill packs from the online store. |

You can unlock skills for oyur heroes which you dont play. All you need to do is trade the Balth points from PvP for the skills (1000 points for a regular skill, and 3000 for elite skills).
ALternatively you could buy the PvP skill packs, which unlock every skill in teh game for your PvP chars and any heros you may have. |

If you don't play a trapper then you are of no real help to the rest of the team which is why they don't want to take you with them. If you want to clear FoW and UW with the build you want to play then your best off finding a Guild who does it often. They tend to be a lot more relaxed about builds and team set ups, and they are not just there for loot but also for fun and the social side of things. |

Also some advice. If this is your first character with heros, only spend the hero skill points on the heros that you take with you most of the time. Get skills for the other lesser used heros after you have gotten all the skills you want on the more-used ones. You have a limited supply of hero skill points to use, you want to use them on the guys that you use a lot.
In regards to "unlocking" elite skills for your heros and playing prophecies with your character, and assuming you are at Kryta area with your character, you wont be able to capture elite skills at least until the Crystal Desert. Once you "unlock" the skill with capture signets, that skill will be available for use on all present and future heros. Also I am not sure if you are yet able to change your secondary profession (also after the Crystal Desert). In order to capture elite skills that are not in your primary or secondary profession, you need to change your secondary profession. Trapping in UW is just how Ice Man says. Lay down multiple traps in one location and group up the bad guys and have them all step on the hidden traps. If you want to learn to trap in a trapper group, maybe be completely honest with a guy looking for a team. Ask him/her to message you a trapper build and go and buy/unlock those skills on that build. When you are in a trapper group, be completely honest and say its your first time and just do what they do and observe them. You might get into a cool group and you can see how trapping works. |
