Hello! I'm new to Guild Wars and I have some questions.
I've been trying out a lot of MMORPGs lately. I used to play WoW, and I'm sure I will again, but at the moment there hasn't been any new or interesting solo/small-group content added to the game. I'm not a raider, and the endless gear grind at the end of the game is an insult to all the fantastic quests experienced before the endgame. I've gotten tired of rerolling.
After trying tons of MMORPGs, I remembered Guild Wars. I haven't heard much about it, to be honest, but I remembered it was there. So, on a whim, I purchased all three of the campaigns. I'm enjoying the game thus far. I have some questions now that I have a few hours of experience. 1) Does the campaign your character started in limit the quests he can take if he travels to the continents of other campaigns? I started a Prophecies character. When I travel to the lands of Factions and Nightfall, will I be able to do most quests or will I be shut out? 2) Am I missing anything not having Eye of the North from the start? Could I get a rough estimate of the level in which I'd start missing out on Eye of the North equipment/quests/content? 3) I notice there are Roleplaying Characters and PvP Characters. Does this mean Roleplaying characters can't PvP at all and PvP characters can't do PvE questing at all? 4) I've already figured out that Ascalon is going to be destroyed - What level should I be before I jump to the future? 5) I'm a warrior/monk right now. Will I be able to solo well? If there are any other good solo classes, I would like to know. I like being self-dependent in MMOs because I'm often called away from my computer for some reason or another. Thanks for the help. I'm loving the game so far. |

1. If you take your Prophecies warrior to Factions, you will not be able to do any of the quests on Shing Jea Island, which is the Factions equivalent to Pre-searing- the area you are in right now. Same idea with Nightfall.
2. Technically not. You are allowed now into Eye of the North as a lvl 10, but it's really designed for experienced players who are level 20 so you would do with some experience beforehand. 3. PvP characters can only ever PvP. PvE characters can do PvE, and at their discretion PvP- but they can only PvP when they have reached the max level of 20. 4. I suggest being lvl 7-8 before leaving Pre-Searing Ascalon. 5. Soloing really depends on the specific circumstances. Explorable areas aren't really designed for you to venture out alone and kill things like they are in Pre-Searing- you almost always need other humans or AI-controlled henchmen with you in order to survive. Specially-tailored solo builds are unique to their purpose- you can find many examples in the Farming sub-forum. And as you've already posted, you've a good start knowing about the Wikis. Go to town on them |

for soloing, you can use henchmen to fill out your party instead of real people. If you have Nightfall or EOTN you can also use heroes.

First, welcome!
Second, you can get the quests from other campaigns, other than the one you start in. You do start about midway through the campaign you travel to, so you might need to do some backtracking to get previous quests, and if you're higher than a certain level, you may not be able to do some of the lower level quests. Eye of the North, IMO, is kinda neat, but not a big deal if you don't have it. It does consist of level 20 content, and that content is a bit harder than the regular stuff. I would wait until at least level 8 before going to "the future", as you put it. PvP characters are basically created at level 20, and have access to max-level armor & weapons, but they cannot take part in PvE content, and only have access to the skills & items you've already unlocked. A PvE/Roleplaying character must find or buy their armor & weapons, but they can also PvP. Skills you are rewarded with or purchase on a PvE character become available to your PvP characters. GW isn't really a "solo" game, per se. It is centered around a party. Now, that party can consist of just your character and AI-controlled henchmen or heroes, so you can be the only human player in your party and still do quite well. There are builds that are truly solo, but they tend to use more advanced skill combinations. If you have other questions, you can message me in game at 'Decay Ember'. |

You will only be missing out on the introductory quests of the other campaigns. Should you leave presearing at lv 5sh you will manage fine, however given the feel and the ease of leveling in presearing, I usually leave 7-8sh. EOTN is really needed only for the hardest end game high end stuffs. And a few overpowered skills. You do not need to worry about soloing, you can bring a few premade npc's with you into every explorable area and they wont complain if you leave for a few hours. PVE characters can PVP, but PVP characters are premade and fast to make. Also they have equipment that would be extremely expensive for a PVE character.

Hi Aletto, welcome to GW!
First, I would like to say "congratz" for having all the campaigns at one time. I'm sure you're going to burn a lot of your time playing the game (without re-rolling). It's good that you have started with Prophecies. I suggest that you stay in pre-searing until you reach level 8 to 10. You can reach level 8 by just doing all the quests (no mission yet in pre-searing). Get to know many NPC because most of them will be mentioned in the post-searing. (Like the quest where you will give an egg to a guy, in post searing that guy will become an ascalon guard and the egg will be his pet.) So, run around. Visit all the towns (i think there are 5 in all but i'm not sure anymore.) Since you love playing solo (i love playing solo, too), maybe you should grab a rin blade from the weapon guy in ascalon. LOL i have a lot of things to say about pre-searing (i am working for a title in pre). For your question number 1, the answer is yes. You character can move to all continents if you have put all the three campaigns under one account. The are some portions in othe campaigns that you cannot access but mostly they are the "training/tutorial part.") You will be able to move to Faction and Nightfall when you reach Lion's Arch and you can move there in any level of your character (you dont need to wait until level 20). For your question number 2, it's fine if you don't have GWEN now. The only thing you are missing is the 2 heroes available at the early part of the game. You will be able to access GWEN when you reach Lion's Arch at a minimun level of 10. But these 2 heroes can be substituted by heroes from Nightfall and Faction. There is also one Hero from Prophecies but you need to take the quest from Nightfall. About PVP, i don't play pvp really. The only PVP i experienced is during the early days of Prophecies. When you leave pre-searing, there is an area in Ascalon town with PVP. If you are still lvl 10 and below, you can PVP there. But your PVE can be played in PVP, too. Although, i don't know the details about it. About playing solo, GW is not designed for solo play. In fact, in pre-searing, there are two quests that will require a party-member. But playing solo has a different definition in GW. You can play solo with the help of Heroes and Henchmen (and you can beat the game using their help). There are some builds that is used to solo some areas (for farming), but they are only optional. So, i really hope you will enjoy playing GW. |
