The letter æ is not allowed?
I am attempting to make a new character and am being told that the character æ is 'not English' and that I may not use it. Now, it's part of a name I've commonly used in DnD, and I would prefer to use it rather than the incorrect substitute 'ae' that is often used. Is there a way to use this letter?
My account is currently located in America and is tied to PlayNC. |

account setting no, other language copies of the game....maybe. The asian copy of the game allows numbers and chinese characters so I would have to say that one might allow it...

Hm. Now does that work with an existing account, and if so is there any way to change a PlayNC account's settings for that?

That's different. Before American/Euro accounts couldn't go to Asian districts and now they can (Korea only atm) so there's no need for that option. It had a lot to do with favour etc.
Basically, there is nothing you can do. End of story. Bye |

Good luck with getting ur the funky symbol in ur name, but i highly doubt it will happen. I have never seen any letters like that ingame which makes me think either
a) they game font CANT display them in which case any amount of QQing to TechSupport will do nothing OR b) You need a game version in the language that came from, in which case they will probably tell u to go purchase a copy of the game in that language. |

You can't use characters that cannot by typed on a basic keyboard from your own territory because then other people in game will have trouble typing your name in features like wisp, friends list, guild invites reporting etc.
Its an obvious reason no amount of pestering support can change everyone elses keyboards. And before anyone says it alt+numpad is fairly complex ot the average pc user and most gw players wont even know about it, basic keyboard in this case willl be the qwerty keyset. It's not a letter of the English alphabet, so why would it be allowed?
Numbers, latvian characters, wingdings, ASCII art - where would you draw the line? |

What sound does 'æ' make anyway? I never learnt to read the phoenetic alphabet (the only place I've seen 'æ' used in English).

In modern usage it is pronounced "e", like in ebony.
It was, together with a number of other nordic letters, used in ancient English, but like "Þ" fell by the wayside a long time ago. |
