Ele perma tank. no enchantment strips. no knockdowns. no interupts. Infinite energy.

I took 1000+ volleys and tons of other attacks. Damage = zero. Tanks have lost favor in recent months. Most people call you a noob or flame ya for it. But it is a viable tactic non the less. Also several of those skills are optional depending on the area. Last edited by EmptySkull; Mar 04, 2008 at 03:31 AM // 03:31.. |

I play both classes and enjoy them both. I say Warrior though for a couple reasons:
~you can make Warrior in any of the campaigns so you have a variety of models to choose from, whereas a Dervish can only be made in NF ~IMO, Warriors are easier to pick up for newer players than Dervs are. The skills and gear are rather straightforward. Ex: Learning energy management/enchantment control on a Derv is something you have to master in order to play the class well. ~because it's a core class, there's many more Warrior skills in the game than Dervish ones. I'm not knocking Dervs one bit, it's an enjoyable class, just seems to me that Warriors are kinder on the player while learning the class. |

Tanks are effective. Use them if you want. If that's what you are interested dont let the zombies discourage you.
Also, a condition ranger is good against an ele tank. |

But, on the other hand, I would have to count myself among those who would say that tanking isn't necessary in most places. There are a few places that require specialized builds/tactics, but even in those places, tanking is just one of the options. And on the 3rd hand, a Dervish can be a lot of fun to play. |

It all depends.
I know that guildies used to go to DoA with D/E. And others were playing W/E there instead. In general, if you think true tanking (standing taking aggro and soaking damage) is the way then it does not matter a lot. However, this kind of tanking is hardly ever needed, except when playing with PUG a lot. If you want to play frontline and are new to that, I'd take warrior. The profession is somewhat more forgiving to mistakes than the lower armored Dervish. |

For fullout tanking Warrior, Dervishes, Eles and Rangers are all about equal. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Out of Warrior or Dervish, i'd probably go for Warrior but you'll definitely need a bit of bonding support for energy. Dervish tanks have less room for error.
IMO Tanks are what you use when all else fails. For the last few days i've been trying to do Ooze Pit in HM on my Ritualist. I've been throwing everything i can think of at it and coming up with blanks every time. No other place has caused me so many problems. Eventually i converted my Rit into an Obsidian Flesh earth tank (yes, my Rit) with Life Barrier from a hero. I took all the healing/prot/support heroes, my guildie brought massive AoE damage on himself and his heroes. Pretty much standard tank and nuke tactics with a few small twists. It worked a treat, even if it was a little slow. I didn't like resorting to the tank and nuke method but i was fast losing patience with the place. I certainly don't make a habit out of tanking because it's boring, requires little skill other than a bit of timing/positioning and IMO is a cheap tactic. I didn't use any kind of tanking when i h/h my way through Vloxen HM other than using minions......but when all else fails or you simply lose patience tanking is a useful method of getting something done. |
