Getting into Guild Wars
Hi all
I recently decided that I would like to pay guild wars. I have never played guild wars before and I am wondering which of the three campaigns I should get. Are the three campaigns totally separate? If I buy the say nightfall do I only get to play in that one campaign and get access to only two professions? I would like to make sure so I am not getting something wrong. Thanks |

gives you info on each campain to buy one thing I dont think it covers is your question on if you buy nf wil you only get 2 proffessions. The answer is no you will get access to the 6 core (warrior, mesmer, elementalist, ranger, monk, necro) and the 2 nf proffessions (paragon and dervish) Last edited by End; Mar 10, 2008 at 02:19 AM // 02:19.. |

Check the sticky above this post.
Prophesies is the easiest to learn the game with, but has the least max level content. Nightfall allows you to have configurable NPCs, and Factions gives you a few new PvP playing styles. |

though the general conclusion is for a first timer the original chapter (sometimes referred to as prophecies) is the better one to get as it has a slower learning curve--allows you to learn the professions etc...nightfall has a good one as well and with the heroes it helps when you cant find a group...so those 2 are the recommended choices. whichever you pick, there are a lot of people here willing to help out as well as the wiki---so enjoy your time in guildwars! |

Currently there's a platinum edition which contains the original campaign and eye of the north.
If I get that, is it worth it to get any of the other campaigns (nightfall is still pretty high priced)? Another question: Does each campaign mean that you pretty much start a new character and enjoy a different story? I am asking because I read that Eye of the north is meant for high level characters. Additionally, I read that in later campaigns, graphics has been updated. If I only have the original campaign and eye of the north, do I get updated graphics as well? Thank you |

If you end up liking GW, it's worth it to eventually get all three campaigns, for the skills unique to each one. You can transfer characters between campaigns as well. If you started a character in Prophecies, but also bought Nightfall, once you reach a certain point in Prophecies it will be possible to travel to Elona (the Nightfall continent) with that character and do NF missions with it, rather than start over.
Eye of the North IS meant for high level characters, yes, but it's an expansion, not a campaign, and by the time your character gets to the point where it can access EotN, you will be level 20 or pretty close. The release of new campaigns didn't effect the graphics quality of the previous ones much (if at all). I know EotN uses things like bump mapping, but only in EotN areas. Buying EotN or Nightfall will not change the look of Prophecies or Factions areas. |

When you install any of the campaigns, a lot of content starts downloading as you play - once it's done (about 2GB's worth when you've got one campaign installed from disc; you can invoke the game with the "-image" option in the shortcut which will just download everything - you can leave it overnight or something to make life easier, especially if your connection sucks), all of the content from the other campaigns will be there, though you won't be able to access it until you get the proper access keys. You will, however, run into other players/characters with skills, classes, armor, weapons and, yes, Heroes from the other campaigns.

Each edition of the game also has a different setting.
Prophesies is pretty much a fantasy Europe I guess. Factions has an Oriental feel to it. Nightfall is north African Everything else important seems to be covered. |

The Official Wiki and The Unofficial Wiki. You can access the official wiki from within the game by typing /help or /wiki into the chatbox. There is also another wiki dedicated to builds, which you can find here. The wikis contain pretty much everything you could ever need to know about the game, although if you can't find the answer you're looking for in the wikis then you can always ask here |

While looking through the builds wiki, I noticed campaign names next to many skills required for almost all the good builds.
For example, "searing flame, nightfall". Does that mean that if I don't have the nightfall campaign, I will not be able to use that spell? |
