Need Info
Hello GW comunity
I want to ask you guys/ladyes about guild wars, yes i know it probably sounds strange "a person who haven't tried GW before" ... well yes i have no clue about it....i was thinking to buy the game as i don't find a key. (no i'm not here to ask for one ) Well first of all...do i haf to buy all of it? mening the first guildwars, eye of the north and all of the addons in order to have all the game content? or the newest addon contains the older ones aswell... 2nd are there good RP servers? meaning : people enjoying it, not mocking or other stuff, and RP newb friendly? 3rd I'm verry interested in the combat system....personally, i like D&D online stormreach...(sorry if i am not allowed to name other games in this forum. new at forum stuff and not plenty of time to read all the rules)...yes so personally i like it. i like the combat system really... and the fact that the dungeons give you a great feeling...team spirit, (if you find some RP-ers it's great)...for the ones you don't know it...the combat system is simmilar to TES 3,4...shift=block....click=atack...the NPC's don't run into you...they are solid...not like in others mmo like wow or lotro. so if you stay "in" a door when it opens...your back will be safe.... So i'm asking you if GW combat system is similar to the one in D&D as they both are instance based or so i've heard about GW... Thank you for having the pacience to read this post, and i'm waiting for some information from you guys. P.S. ....sorry for my bad english L.E.....i remembered some things..... How is the skill and character leveling (evolving) system? And how is the game exactly? is it "fantastic" like wow... plasma cannons, strange beings, spaceships, strange maps,,,,,or the enviorment is sticking to the , classical way i could say....you know...natural trees, islands farmlands.....the classical enchanted swords, ice , sonic....enemies like elementals, ghosts, skeletons, orcs goblins..... or it's like...big robots or creatures that never heard of untill the game appeared... 1. each game is separate, except eotn which you need one of the others for
2. there are no "servers" 3. guild wars has autoattack, attack skills, block skills etc. enchantments and stances etc .have short durations, so it is a lot faster than most other games the environment is classical, except the asura make magical robots and stuff leveling is a minor part of GW, you will spend most of your time playing and competing at max level use www.gw.gamewikis.org for more info on the game |

Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall each have content that the others do not, but do not need the others to work. Eye of the North needs one of the other three to work.
There are no servers. There is only distinction between PvP and PvE characters. A PvE character can do PvP, but not the other way around. I'm not quite sure what you're talking about with the combat system, but, no, you cannot walk through enemies. There are obstacles that can obstruct projectiles. This link should help with getting started: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Getting...8Prophecies%29 And, the game is very traditional in environments as far as RPGs go. |

Also a word of advice. If you get Black Dye save it for a while... Just trust me on this, it's worth more than one might think if they're new to the game. |

Please don't go flaming around on my account ....
i'm oppened to all the comments bad or good about the game.... Personally the only thing i'm sad about it's that there is no RP, and a little about the fact that i thought the combat system is like the one in D&D....click to wave the sword around and block youre enemyes blows by holding shift....or dodge them by holding shift while going left,right,back.....Thumbling.. P.S. ...don;t get me wrong...i like the game but i'm looking for something new... i'm not criticizing GW...i don't eaven played it... but being instance based i thought it imerses you more within the combat like a real 3rd person... not clicking buttons on a bar to do the job...but spamming the mouse button )) I'l probably buy prophecy tommorow.... so i need nothing else beside it? |

What it sounds to you, and what it actually is, are different. He asked for opinions. I gave him mine. So why don't you stfu just because someone didn't say how awesome pre-searing is. You won't get far if you keep thinking everyone should love GW. Did you not read the thread "you post, but do you still play?"..? Barely anyone who are active on these forums posted in that thread to say they still play GW. |

I would agree that GW is dead now, and from what you describe about wanting an RP game, you likely will not like GW.
Dont buy it and wait for AoC instead. |

For example you say the combat system is 'basic MMORPG stuff'. The game actually plays very differently to most of the current competition due to the restrictions on the amount of skills you can use and the level playing field in equipment. You say "Anet have already resigned the game to die". As far as I understand it Guild Wars 2 won't be released until 2010. Not exactly a couple of weeks until the servers get switched off now is it? They've already said they'll keep the servers up as long as people are playing too. You say the GW community is the worst you've seen? Well, if you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Sure the game has a good percentage of morons, but there are also people and guilds out there who go out of their way to be helpful. Edit: If you read the OP carefully too, you'll see the word 'information' and not 'opinion' (see the dictionary link below if you don't know the difference). You got bored of the game. Live with it, move on. Someone new to the game might actually enjoy the game as you presumably did at one time? Feel free to tell me to 'stfu' again if you disagree with the above. Although I can recommend www.dictionary.com if you feel like being a bit more creative with your vocabulary. Last edited by [Rhiannon]; Mar 15, 2008 at 03:45 AM // 03:45.. |

Back on topic, I'd suggest GuildWiki as others have for actual game info. It has lots of factual stuff without the tripe that often surrounds it on forums. As to your question, you'll be fine with just Prophecies to get a feel for the game to decide if you like it, though you'll have limitations such as only being able to play the 6 core professions (you get two new ones with Factions, and two more with Nightfall). |
