Difference between a Gold and Purple?
Okay, is there an actual difference between say..
Purple Furious Fellblade and Gold Furious Fellblade and both have req9, max damage, perfect Furious mod, and inscribable. Why does the text place a difference between pricing? |

Golds are more rare.
...That's it, really. Price all depends on rarity. |

Functionally they are the same, so if you are savvy you will keep the purp for use, and sell the golds for $$

if they have the same stats they don't affect your gameplay, damage or whatever. Price depends on rarity, as Bryant Again said... people are willing to pay a lot for rarity. Even the req doesn't mean anything if you meet (or go above) it.
I mean if you don't care about weapon color, just buy max purples - people sell 'em lower for rarity/vanity reasons... and sell your gold ones :P. |

I'd buy the purple. No one ever knows a weapon's text color unless you show them directly.

Well, I'll tell you that I'd rather find a gold as a drop because they're guaranteed to have better mods than a purple. That, and if the skin is rare (such as your fellblade example), they fetch a higher price because of rarity, so I'll likely sell it in favor of a purple version. Those are the only two differences I'm concerned about.

No difference whatsoever.
Price difference is because people are dumb. |

If both have the same stats, there is no functional difference. Gold items are more rare then purple items, which is why they cost more.

I had a purple req 8 max dmg wingblade sword that i used for a long time, that is til i salvaged it, when half asleep one night .
So no it does not matter what colour the weapon is if the stats are good. |

Basically, it's because GW is infested with Elitists who want the best of everything.
Gold looks good, and is the highest tier in the item string (white-blue-purple-gold, Green not included) thus it's more desirable. |

True, the older Prophecies/Faction stuff is still bound by the inscription limits.

The real difference goes back to pre-inscription drops. Non-inscribed drops work as follows.
White - 0 mods Blue - 1-2mods ranging from 20%-50%of max Purple - 1-fully modded ranging up to 99%of max, ie 14^50 or 20/19sundering. Gold - 1-fully modded ranging up to max. Now that you can remod a purple or even a blue item they are all perfectly equal, save that people will pay much more for gold as it caries some LEETNESS value. If your looking to save some cash buy a blue or purple inscribed item, if you want to show off your massive wealth then go for golds + low req(7-8). |

Also, to add to Savio's post. Purples and blues can have max mods.
Got a icy and earth hilt off blues yesterday Got a +5ar off a purple. OK, so not l33t mods, but still very useful (if you know how to play of course)
