Rangers - Expertise
After a week or so of playing, there's still alot I think I need to learn about the game. For now, I'm focusing on working a Ranger/Necro combo. Currently at lvl 15. I've focused most of my skills in markmanship (for weapon), wilderness (for healing and AoE/DD arrows Kindle/Ignite Arrow), and Blood Magic (for supplement self and group healing - blood well).
Now my question is, I've looked a few sites and some postings and people write about putting points into expertise. How does this work exactly? Does the energy reduction work for all skills or just certain ones? I tried playing around with my attribute points putting some in expertise, but my energy usage always stayed the same. Is it suppose to be this way? Are the results not displayed in the tool tip? I would think it would work like the dmg/healing numbers in the tool tip, where if you put a point into wilderness your dmg for ignite arrow goes from 11 to 12 or something like. Can anyone clarify? |

The listed mana cost does not change. Rest assured that you are indeed charged less though. It reduces the costs of attack skills, preparations and traps by 4% per rank.

So this doesn't apply to all skills right? And maybe I just haven't looked carefully enough, but what does it mean by preparation skills? (Favorable winds, ignite arrow, kindle arrow, etc...)
Also, so say for example, if I put 10 points into expertise. That should be 40% energy reduction cost right? (i.e. Some spell costs 10 energy, but with expertise with only cost 6?) |

Yes, 10 ranks = 40% reduction in mana cost = an attack skill, preparation or trap that is listed as costing 10 mana will only cost you 6 |

I made 20th level last night with my R/W and it is awesome. I can't remember if I have an 11 or a 12 in Expertise (at least 1 of which is from rune), but I damn near never run out of energy.

I am marksmanship and expertise primary with secondary emphasis on wilderness survival and blood magic. So far, I believe every Ranger skill I have aquired is reduced in cost by my Expertise points. However, among my Necromancer skills, only Vampiric Touch is affected.

Expertise also affects touch skills. (Vampiric Touch/Bite, Mending Touch)
