I'm thinking of starting to play Guild Wars again...
And I wish to know, in the honest opinion of the members of this forum, is it still worth playing from scratch? Are there many players? Are they douche bag cheaters? That kinda stuff.
Also, if I should start to play again, what characters would you recommend? I don't want an argument started about this topic, just your individual suggestions, and why such a character is good for any reason, not just powergaming cause I'm not really into that. Also I stopped playing GW just before the first EXP pack came out, so I just have the core game. Thanks for any feedback. Last edited by CiSTM K0nFLiqT; Apr 15, 2008 at 03:03 AM // 03:03.. |

so prophecies. its pretty empty in there. except LA and ToA so if you like to UW or FoW then i suggest you continue to play but if you like to play the storyline with people. Then its hard to get a team going in prophecies. so its really on you. i have all campaigns so i have lots to do so im very busy. and i want to achieve max kobd so you should know thatll keep me reallll busy ^^. Anet is working hard getting rid of botters and stuff so its not as bad. Pvp is fun so theres alot you can do,so you might wanna try that out.

I didn't understand a word of that jargon, sorry. Like I said, I haven't played in a long time.

Only start playing if you think you will have fun. Every here and there there are jerks playing the game, but I don't think that is worth stopping to play if that means that you stop having fun. |

What are hom and gwen? This jargon makes no sense to me.
I play all RPGs for fun and because I like to be the hero or anti-hero of any story, so I might give GW another crack to see if it fulfills that criteria. |

HOM = Hall Of Monuments
GWEN = the last expansion pak (Eye of the North) LA = Lions Arch ToA = Temple Of Ages If you can't buy or don't want to buy at least one expansion (EOTN or Nightfall) then I would say forget it and wait for Guild Wars 2. There aren't many people doing missions, etc... so you need heros or PVE only skills from EOTN. You can get by with just henchman in normal mode. |

Whats prof mean?
Seriously, without the game specific jargon this would go alot faster. EDIT: ah thanks Cruzer. Maybe I should just wait for the sequel. I have a good backlog of unbeaten games right now as is. Thanks for your help. |

Trust me, if you're looking for a game without a lot of annoying people, this isn't a bad choice. I'll tell you this - don't play any first person online shooters.

A warning beforehand - while Guild Wars' community are (some of them) slightly more refined than the average FPS crowd, we are far crueler than any FPS player can ever hope to be. Just a friendly warning.

Prophecies only? Well, PvE isn't the shit, and unless if you really hated it because you kept replaying it thinking that "this job" is better than the other, then head on over to PvP only.
For PvP only, it's a sinch . Just get the needed skills and start. Though, if you want a particular build, it might be hard since you only have prophecies. Still, prophecies IMO contains the best PvP "start up" skills. You can still find great combinations in it. |

There are some jerks in game, mostly trade-scammers and time-wasters. Check out the 'Most Pathetic Scam Attempt' thread in Riverside for a list of things to avoid. Only you can really see if it's worth playing from scratch. So GW2 is coming into beta sometime in the near future, big whoop. That's only going to prevent you from playing Guild Wars(GW1) if you want it to. From what I've read, GW2 is going to be a very different system and you may find GW1 closer to your liking. Prophecies is kinder to new-comers and re-starters than either of the other two chapters (Factions and Nightfall), and Pre-Searing is wonderfully relaxed. Just do what you want to do, many people here are jaded from too much playtime, and in some cases far to high expectations. Good luck. |

Well, GW2 beta testing will start in mid 2009, so the game not before 2010, s you have al the time you want to play. You have only Prophecies campaign and as someone else said it's quite empty except some outpost. My suggestion is to buy one of the other campaign (suggest Nightfall for heroes) and then Eye of the North. These are the last 2 campaigns and there are many people playing them.
Concerning which profession to choose it's up to you, you can develope characters you have or if create a new one I suggest a fun class as mesmer. |

If you plan on buying Factions, Nightfall or Eye of the North then I would say, Yes, it is worth picking back up. If not, then wait for GW2.
