I need a bit of help please
Alot of you may have the 2 official guide books to guild wars prophecies and factions, has anyone noticed in the salvaging section that it says that certain ghostly items (dark remnants, phantom residue, stormy eyes etc) can be salvaged into globs of ectoplasm when using an expert salvage kit! I have never been able to salvage 1 ecto from any of these items and I found it quite annoying (i've been tryin to salvage thme since first time i started playing 2 years ago) I emailed the support team and asked if its actually possible to salvage the ectos as it says in the guides, and 3 different GM's said they can't answer that sort of question and I should ask on fansite forums! so please can anyone help me on this? thanks!

thanks! the reason I asked is cos when factions came out i bought the guide with it and with me having the 24hr headstart bonus I was playin it before quite a few peeps, but while playing on the first day I noticed that they were still saying that you can salvage the ectos from those types of items! Quite annoying if u could never do that in the first place tho
If anyone else can add to my query, like if there was a time when you could salvage ecto from ghostly items and stuff it would be much appreciated! Last edited by Maniac Monty; Apr 17, 2008 at 01:32 PM // 13:32.. |

I don't know if anyone has ever gotten an ecto from a phantom residue or dark remnant. I do know that I have never gotten one. I do know that after salvaging 20 or so, I figured it wasn't going to happen or the probability is so low that I should only expect to get Glittering Dust. Fortunately, Dust is a major component of a couple consumables and it's demand has gone up.
It reminds me of a couple of other things. On occasion, you can salvage a gem from a Djinn Essence or a jeweled weapon. It is a rare occurrence but I have had that happen. It is possible to get an armbrace from a cofer. However, from the people I have talked to, the odds are 200-1 or something like that. In this case, one is much better off taking the 15 gemsets into the Elite quest and getting one that way. If you really want ectoplasm, join a group and do the UW missions. They are really fun. |

Thanks for the info, I do go UW alot but I have noticed that the drop rate for ecto has gone down from when i first started to play! (although i have also noticed that during special events with special drops (bunnies, ales etc...) ectos drop alot more frequent. I just thought with BOTH the guide books saying about the ecto salvages it could work. Maybe it does work but the odd's of getting one are like 1000-1 or something lol! anyways thanks again for the help!

I have seen a thread about the rate of salvaging ectos from dark remains or something similar quite some time ago. The chance of getting ecto is like 1/1000000 and you are better off merching it and saving your salvage kit.
Not sure how the thread concluded eventually, but thats what I understand when I read it |
