well heroes generally take as long as a player would to level up simply put play through the story with them and they will level up.
you can but new skills for them at hero skill trainers at places such as kamedan and Sunspear Sanctuary. and you would use their builds as you would one of your characters so I'm not sure what you mean by configure them. |

You will find info about here here.
Copying builds will not work most of the time on your hero because most likely you don't have the skills yet. If you want to enjoy the use of your Hero, I suggest that you buy Hero Unlock Skills. I guarantee that you will appreciate your Hero more. "Configuring" (or customizing) your hero is similar to "configuring" your character. If you presss I (inventory), you can change weapon and offhand of your hero by "clicking" on their window. Similarly, you can change the attributes and skills of your Hero by pressing K and then chosing the hero you want to customize. Your hero will max out their levels if you keep on bringing them in the battlefield. Be sure also that you have your hero in your party everytime you receive your quest reward. |

If your heroes are lower level than you, they gain xp at a rate 5x normal till they catch up with you, then they gain XP at the same rate as you.

Any skills unlocked on your account (skills a pvp char can use) are available for your heroes.

Configure the hero builds as you would your own. If this is your first character, then you can get hero skill unlocks from trainers in Nightfall (it says "Hero Skills" as their job title). Another way to unlock skills is to build up balthazar faction in pvp arenas or Alliance battles then go the the Priest of Balthazar and unlock skills, spending balthazar faction. As any skill unlocked on your account, will be unlocked for ALL heros.

Interesting thread. For some reason, I didn't realize you could level up heroes. Probably because I only have Prophecies and EOTN (so all my heroes joined at level 20).
