Connecting to GW at shool
I used to be able to connect to Guild Wars at school before, but this year they have kinda blocked it. I cant logg in between 07:00 - 15:00.
And as unexperienced I am with connectionstuff, I ask you if you know how I can find a way to logg in. I have my legal rights to play it aslong I'm not in class |

they probably have all ports blocked through the network that access a remote server. So you can still get internet but something that has to go out on a specific port will be denied.
Unless they clear it there is no way around it. |

Did your school say you could play using their bandwidth and connection? Because if not, I'm hard pressed to believe you have any 'legal rights' to play using someone else's connection.

I love it when people say they have "legal rights" to do something. It generally comes from people who are clueless about the law.
First of all, you don't have legal rights. Second of all, unless you know how get through their firewall, you'd not manage it. |

I think that they must have blocked ports, and as far as i know, there is not port forwaring/proxy in guild wars

However, the most likely thing to happen is that WoW will get banned, therefore making the rule the same for everyone*. *This, of course, being the point of rules. |

Ask those people playing WoW how they manage it, then. They'll more easily be able to help with the specifics of connecting at your school. Or you could always study. I'm not familiar with laws in Sweden, but I am fairly certain they don't include requiring all private property owners to provide free, unlimited bandwidth, public internet service.
Strictly speaking, the school has legal rights; you merely are granted privileges, and the school's rules govern those privileges. You should politely ask the IT department or network administrator about your problem connecting, and mention how others are able to connect to WoW while you are blocked from GW. Don't mention "legal rights," and be prepared for WoW to be blocked as well, like Tatile said. Last edited by MisterB; May 05, 2008 at 07:11 AM // 07:11.. |

Contact your campus Tech/Information Services/IT department, explain the issue that a program you use is being blocked. Ask them for their policy regarding GW and if it isn't a problem, have them resolve the issue for you.
If you're not at a uni/college, but in high school or something, well then get back to class and stop wasting your school's bandwidth/electricity. |

now that you have expanded upon the schools stance of gaming during class hours, it makes a bit more sense. Obviously its not a "legal" right, but a right none-the-less.
As gaming when not in class is allowed, speak to the people who run the IT classes about the issue and see if they can alter the computer settings to allow access . |

They have most likely blocked the ports that guildwars and world of warcraft amoung others use to prevent the clogging of the schools internet connection.

Don't play guild wars at school if you ever want anyone to find you attractive.

I had this problem for awhile at my college. In my dorm I could connect to GW but for about 2 months I couldn't connect during peak times. I could connect later at night, but not during the day. If I did I recieved massive amounts of lag. Eventually it resolved itself but I do believe it's due to the high amount of WoW players as they are taking up alot of bandwidth. Many of them were playing at the same time as they all do raids together or they would leave it on during the day draining bandwidth. I got lag everywhere that had to do with the internet. Your college can put only so much bandwidth for you to use and once most of that is taken up, you won't be able to play.
As for the fact that you are playing at school. They should block you and the WoW players. I know my old school had blocked any kind of game site including miniclips. You are at school to learn, not to play games even in your free time. |

Just because they "allow" you to play, doesn't mean you have the "right" to play. If you have free time then study or something.
