Either Nightfall or Prophecies I would say. I think there is a sticky somewhere about that, and plenty of other threads.

Nightfall gives you heroes, but Prophecies is the best overall game. Therefore buy Prophecies and enjoy murdering charr.

Here's a link to the sticky mentioned above. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10102502
As to forum member opinions, there is no single choice. Overall, many players prefer the original game, but like having heroes. That would make the choice the Prophecies/Eye of the North combo. As GW2 won't be out for a year or more, you have plenty of time to try them all.

my first suggestion would be the platinum edition, thats prophecies (the first game) and eye of the north (the latest expansion with heroes). if you dont want to spend that much just get prophecies.

I agree with Celestial Coloneh - that combo will give you a lot of game and a lot of options! When you've finished those, you can buy Factions and Nightfall to come full circle!

I LOVE factions, no offense but your asking people on their opinions and taking them as reason
thing is, just cause someone else likes something does mean you will I always find people tend to love their first campaign the most |

New players don't usually figure this stuff out til much later. Starting with the original game does a few things. Teaches the game mechanics slowly. This allows you to learn at your own pace. Provides skills through quests, instead of having to purchase them all. A new player with no money will have trouble paying for the skills, or getting the skill points. Increases party size gradually. This allows people to understand why certain classes are valuable. A party of 6 may not need 2 Monks, but a party of 8 almost always does. Jumping from 4 players to 8 may confuse people as to what they should add to the team. Heroes are a great feature for PvE. However, a new player won't have the skills available to make their builds very good for quite some time unless they invest a lot of money into purchasing skills or playing extensive PvP to unlock them. I agree the Platinum pack is the best option. You start with the better learning curve (IMO) and by the time you are to Lion's Arch where you can travel to Eye of the North, you will have a decent amount of skills for your character, be a high enough level to enter (10 minimum), and possibly will have played a couple other characters to have unlocked more skills for other classes. Then you could travel to GW:EN to acquire some heroes and more skills if you want, or wait until you decide you want to try something new. My vote would be: 1) Platinum Pack (Original game + Eye of the North) 2) Original game 3) Nightfall 4) Factions (amazing game with good skills and classes, but not good for a beginner) |
