Platinum + Eye of the north will give you (Theoretically) 1/2th of the content.
There's still Factions and Nightfall left over =/.

I'd recommend NF and EotN mostly because of heroes but also Factions has a very high learning curve and you'd find it very hard after the first 2 missions if you've never played before. Prophecies is rather boring, long, and tedious. So I'd say NF and then EotN.

Play what you enjoy i say but,

e.g factions and eotn gets you some heros in eotn but not in factions

Nightfall is the one to offer you heros from the start ie.level 2and they gain level along with you..and when you go to eotn you have additional heros also.

Proficies..does not have heros to obtain...(only if you have nightfall you can obtain olias in proficies)

So work it out...what do you want? heros from the start?or no heros till later on.

You state...you dont want to miss anything out...well you miss 2/3 if you do not obtain the other 2 campaigns(each is a standlaone but can be merged with your main accout allowing you to travel anywhere with any of your chars....

as eotn is the only expansion (add on)

To get everything you would of course need the first game "Prophesies" "Factions" "Nightfall" and the Eye of the North expansion.
Then if you wanted to play the pvp part of the game and have access to all the skills you either have to find them in the game or buy the pvp skill packs.

That would give you all the game content.

Why not start based on your personal preference for character type or location.

All games give you the base 6 character classes
Warrior/Ranger/Monk/Necromancer/Elementalist and Mesmer

Prophesies is based on a mythical medieval European style world
Factions adds the Assassin and Ritualist classes and has an Oriental theme
Nightfall adds the Paragon and Dervish classes and is more North African in style

Look up the classes online and decide where you would like to start play.

As you add new games to your online account you can cross from game to game via ship.

you shoudl get platinum edition: eye of the north and prophecies, then if you like the game, get nitfall, then factions. in that specific order.

chapter 1 prophecies: has all the core classes that are the most requiered, has a good training for a new player. it is directly linked to chaptrer 4 (eye of teh north expansion) which came out last and this is where the majority of the player base plays now. you cannot use more then 3 heros at a time, and you get a good bunch of them in ch4, so IF you like the game then you can buy NF (ch3) and then ch2 (factions)

chapter 3: still has players playing in it, but the "assemblies" for all the fun stuff like dungeons and elite areas alays happen 90% of time from ch 1 and ch 4. also ch4 has some very important things that chapter 3 and 2 dont have, and you will want to have access to them:

1. consumables
2. dungeons
3. a few (or shall i say 1? ursan lol) skills that you will need to get into the party of random players
4. weapons that sell for alot and that might make you ritch

most player base hangs out in 3 towns in chapter 1 and in chapter 4, most people dont come back to do ch 2 or 3 unless they have to to get a specific skill, armor or a title. the for fun play mostly happens in ch4 or a a few areas in ch 1 (temple of the ages as exmple is the main reunion place to team up with people doing fissure or underworld, which are teh two most profitable areas. you can enter those from ch3 and 2 as well, but there wil be MUCH less party options since most people look for party from TOA)

I agree with this.

Prophecies has a long learning curve and is really friendly towards new players. The whole chapter is basically one long, long tutorial which is great. Greatest thing about Platinum Edition is the ability to get 3 heroes at 1/4 of the Prophecies campaign. An ele, mesmer and a monk hero are a great help for the rest of the campaign.

Once you're done with Prophecies, go back to Eye of the North to finish the story line, get more challenges and gain a variety of heroes. If I were buying GW for a new player, PE would be my choice.

Junior787, feel free to contact me in-game once you get it. I'd be more than happy to show you around, help out and answer any questions you're sure to have.

Normally, I would say get the game in order that it was released because the game evolves from Prophesies to EOTN and you get the best grasp of the game this way. However, in your case, I would get Nightfall and EOTN first, because it allows you to get features that aren't available in Prophesies, like heroes and weapons that allow you to customize them better. If you can afford to do it, buy Prophesies at the same time and do those missions after you complete Nightfall. You won't miss anything if you save Factions until last.

You should know that each section gives you skills, etc. that you can use to make you a better player. So, the more parts of the GW universe you have, the better off you will be.

guildwarsguru.com and wiki.guildwars.com are your best friends. It will help you with every aspect of the game. I've been playing for almost 3 years and I still go to these sites almost every day. While the initial learning curve is easy, there is incredible depth that these web sites will help you get up to speed quicker than by just doing the missions.

Once you master the basics and complete one of the chapters, completely, make sure you try the Elite missions or go back and do things in Hard Mode. This applies to PVE. Player vs. Environment

You may want to concentrate on PVP. Player vs. Player

The game can be easily tailored to your preferences and playing style.
