New here, thinking about getting this game, a few questions.
Hey guys my bro bought WoW and ive had it for a few months now and its not my cup of tea. The leveling just takes too long and its all basically filler until u get to 70, all u do is quest and the quest is pointless and takes too much time. i think i would like this more because the max level is 20 and its easy to get too and much less time consuming so u can get into the action much faster. im more of a casual player and dont have time to level that much, + its free. I know this is a GW forum so im not gonna ask which one is better, i just wanna know the difference in it. for those who have played both how does the pace of each game compare to each other? is GW a faster paced game? So there's no world pvp right? so i cant just run around and kill people? also if i buy only of the games..lets say the latest one i can play it but can i play the other classes? like the normal ones and the assassin from the 2nd expansion? but if i only get the latest one then i cant go into the other worlds correct? whats the most played class and the most noob friendly class? i have more questions but these r the ones at the top of my head.
*edit* also how hard is obtaining good gear in this game? im a past d2 player and boy it took countless runs. Last edited by turtlelol; May 22, 2008 at 07:03 AM // 07:03.. |

There are lot of almost the same questions here. But let me answer you as much as I can, I played both and actually got to 70 in WOW, well GW is nothing like that, you can get to 20 in few days ( if you know the game) or in few weeks in your case. It's the same thing as in wow game doesnt end when you get to 20, you have some elite areas and such, but nothing time consuming or stupidly hard as in wow. There is no world pvp, only arenas, guild vs guild etc, you ll figure that out yourself, and no you can't just run around and kill ppl, game is like instance, when you leave the town only you and your party are there, you can only meet other players in towns.
If you buy only one game you can only play classes that are available in that chapter, so if let's say you dont get NF you won't be able to play paragon and derivsh, and if you dont get faction you wont be able to play assasin and ritualist, and no you cant go to other worlds, you are right there. What is the most played class I really cant say, all classes from Prophecies I guess ( 1st GW chapter), most noob class hmm maybe warrior, but that's a more of a myth Gear is something you dont need to worry in GW, since all armor at max lvl have same AL and with runes and insing. ( which are pretty cheap) you can make status you wish, for a very little money. There is elite armor which is more expensive, but the only thing that makes it different than the cheaper verision is looks, so if you want to look nice you ll have to spend a bit more money and that can take a bit more time, but its nothing compering to wow Hope this helps. |

Interesting, so when u leave town the only people outside in the world is you and ur party if u have one? but in town u can see everyone and thats where u can battle each other in the arena or something right? so u can only pvp in certain places? also are there auction houses to buy stuff and sell? whats the main currency, gold or trading items. the reason im interest in this is because i dont like countless hours farming for crap and leveling, i just wanna get into the action and start killing stuff and have fun. also lets say im not in a guild can i queue in a arena game or some pvp style thing that the game has or do i have to be in a guild to do the pvp events? like in WoW theres battlegrounds where u get team up with random people ya know?

This game is different from most other MMO because the developers endeavour to have a level playing field for PvP. Hence, max stat weapons and armour are relatively easy to acquire.
You can customise your armour and weapons to suit your playing style and needs. You may need to farm a bit for the weapon and armour mods, or the gold to buy them with. The main reason why people farm gear and gold is to get certain skins for weapons and armour, but the stats are the same. You can PvP in a variety of arenas. 4v4 random, 4v4 team, 8v8 guild, 12v12 random/team alliance battles. This depends on the campaign you have. If you play about 2 hrs a day, you can reach max level and have max equipment in a month, you will likely to be able to complete one the chapters in normal mode too. You only need a guild to play Alliance Battles and Guild Battles. You can be in on the action before you reach max level, but because of how easy it is to get to max level, those lower level arenas tend to be empty. It's different from other MMO games, so keep an open mind of what to expect. |

One thing to add: there is no Auction house in guild wars So if you want to buy or sell something you will have to spam it in "trade towns" ( there are few of thems in game) or you can sell and buy here on forum.

The game can be very fast paced in relation to reaching level 20 depending on the game you choose. Factions being the fastest while Guild Wars/Prophecies is very slow unless you know the right people. Factions and Nightfall offer the best gear early in the game, while the other game, again, takes a bit more time unless you find someone to get you to the later areas (which can be expensive in itself and I wouldn't advise it for a new player.)

Creating a PvP character would fling you directly into the PvP world (the Random Arenas are available to everyone from the start), but IMHO, that'd probably leave you with a sour experience. Alliance Battles are the most forgiving of all the PvP modes, in my opinion, and would allow you to "run around and kill people" much to the chagrin of your teammates. :P |

i also like how the level cap is low, i just wanna get to max power quick and stop
pointless grinding. another reason why i dont like wow takes waaay too long and its all filler until u get to 70. it took my bro 5 months to get to 70... |

Rather than go over a lot of previous post reiterating what they said
The game is good and you said a D2 (you mean to say you never got a run in closed) I think you will enjoy the game and its a level playing field as far as skills go no editors here.....(not like Open D2) I would advise tho to play through the storyline to become accustomed to gameplay and leveling.... there are a lot of ex D2 guys who play including myself ..as far as gear goes Max armour is max armour(no best)only the cost...as for looks ect. Buy obtaining better weapons, insignas , runes to improve your standing and Elite skills also to compliment your skill bar .I think you will enjoy the game |

It is true, but I can think of many good games where you cant jump...
jumping in online games always makes me retch, to much CS/BF i guess, this game doesnt have a Z axis though, which jumping or not - sucks hard Quote:
at a certain point weapons and characters no longer get any "stronger" from then on its all down to you skill and playstyle rather than your equipment however there are better looking items with the same stats as the crappier easier to get ones, but purly for show - same goes for armour |
