If you have GWEN you get 2 heros just for starting that adventure and a third at the second town you reach. You can earn 2 more heros in the very next city you come across.
In very short order you could have a Monk, Elementalist, Mesmer, Dervish and Ritualist with very little effort. Though you will need some skills unlocked to make the most of any Hero. |

The heroes are easy to get, it is getting all the skills for your various heroes that I find difficult and time consuming. Especially because I do not want to play 5 different characters only to obtain all the elites and standard skills for each class.

I know you said you didn't want to bother with nightfall, but it does have one nice advantage. Hero Points to buy certain skills go a long way in saving gold. Also, if the skill is already unlocked on your account, but not your character, you can (usually) get a tome for cheaper than the 1k it costs for the skill (saves your skill points, to) |
