Noob wanting advice
I just started playing guild wars, and I know I want to start off as a Warrior (i love smashing people with weapons), but I'm not sure of what secondary class to pick. Please post suggestions and why

Necromancer: Plague Touch allowing you to transfer at least one negative condition (usually Blind) to a foe
Monk: Condition Removal, hard res (not really needed) Ritualist: Various Farming builds, Splinter Weapon Paragon: Shout duration lengthening (Enduring Harmony?) Off the top of my head, that's pretty much it. |

Use the start area of the game to try them all out.
This is important as you will learn a little about the classes and gain xp money skills and item drops. Bear in mind that the warrior has the lowest energy reserve and the slowest energy regeneration so you wont be blasting off lots of spells whatever you pick as a secondary. Warrior/Monk for healing and protection skills "very common often derided these days. Warrior/Elementalist for the defensive earth based skills that improve armour "the earth tank builds are popular" Warrior/Ranger for the animal companion "not a common secondary" Warrior/Necro skills that drain an opponant and heal yourself also poison and disease skills "have tried this and it works quite well. Warrior/Mesmer "I like mesmers but don't think it would work very well. Left out Assassin Ritualist Paragon and Dervish as you didn't say which game you had. |

Going W/N? Do not use minions. Really. You don't want them, that's what Necro primaries are for (16 Death Magic and Soul Reaping :3).

W/E can also benefit from conjure enchantments for extra damage. Not sure why no one mentioned it yet. It will easily get stripped later in the game though.

Don't choose your secondary expecting to seriously emulate that profession. Warriors are always best at smashing things in the face. Your secondary should be chosen by what will help you do that better. Don't waste time using spells for protection, to summon minions, to interrupt enemies and stuff. Use secondary skills that will buff your attack damage or remove conditions/hexes that stop you from doing damage.
Off the top of my head, the best reason for each secondary is W/R: Apply Poison to inflict poison with each attack. Good if you have an aoe hit that will get it on lots of targets W/Mo: Mending touch, best condition removal for a warrior. A few conditions can seriously gimp warriors. W/N: Plague touch is a way to transfer a condition from you to enemy. Enfeebling Blood is a great skill on just about any character, though its place is more on a caster. W/Me: Mantras are popular but kinda meh. W/E: Conjure x = more damage per attack. W/A: Can't really think of anything. Most of the good assassin skills rely on combos, cost too much energy, or are in critical strikes. W/Rt: SPLINTER WEAPON! <- best damage skill in game. Wont have enough energy on a warrior to keep it up unless you have zealous weapon though. W/P: Again, nothing really stands out. Might get some use out of Go for the Eyes!. W/D: Heart of Holy flame turns your damage into holy, which ignores specific +armor to x element some classes have, and does double damage to undead. If all of this is just confusing you don't worry. About halfway into prophecies (even quicker for Nightfall and Factions) you get the ability to change your secondary at any time you want. Before then the game isn't so demanding that you really need your secondary anyway. Last edited by The Meth; Jun 04, 2008 at 05:25 PM // 17:25.. |
