What should I buy to play guildwars?
I bought the original guild wars when it came out.
I want to come back. Which expansions are the most vital to be competative now? Are any of the expansions content included in the original game for free now? What combination of the expansions is the most affordable? I've been reading about the descriptions for the various expansions, repacks editions etc but it is unclear to me which packages come with which expansions. The most recent repack I see is Guild Wars Platinum or Guild Wars Factions Platinum.... Last edited by SidewaysJump; Jun 10, 2008 at 12:43 PM // 12:43.. |

Let's see...
To be competative for PvP? Or PvE? For PvP, you need all the expansion. Most people will tell you that. No, none of the games are free. They're cheaper than they were, but you still have to pay for them. They used to sell skill unlock packs, if you just want the skills for a particular campaign for PvP, but I don't think they sell those anymore. Welcome back. |

Technically, Factions and Nightfall are stand alone games. You should still have the first one though, since that's the one you played originally right?
Eye of the North is the only real expansion, since it requires you have one of the other games. There is a Platinum Edition of Prophecies that includes Eye of the North (EoTN). If you don't remember your logon for the original, that would be a good buy, since it's a little cheaper than buying them separate. Other than the Platinum Edition, no other campaigns are sold together. |

I'd say get Nightfall and Eye of the North. However, for a more rewarding game experience, you should have all of them. NF and Factions are about $30-$35, and EotN maybe a bit more. It's not that much, and you can get them a few weeks apart, if money is truly a problem.

I have the original. So to come back to guildwars I'll have to shell out $45 to $60 or more?
That makes me sad . I started playing Age of Conan only to realize the game is unfinished crap, it made me want to come back to guildwars. |

Well you don't have to pay for it all at once, as mentioned earlier, if you don't want to.
Buy one, finish it, and then move on to the others. It's all about enjoying the game. If you just wanna straight PvP though, find a good guild, or at least a guild that doesn't mind you don't have everything unlocked yet, and go from there. |

I believe theres a Factions platunim edition out (Factions + EotN). That should cover you for a while. After you beat those 2 (and Prophs with the new nerfed/buffed skills since you played last) you can think of getting Nightfall. That should keep you going for a while.

To the OP dont know why it makes you sad as
buy the game and its free to play as often as you wish (no monthly charges) aoc so you were shelling out cost of game +monthly charge I think you should just buy N/F and buy as you go along, thus within 3 months you have all games and cost was minimal as some have posted you can get others up to 70%off rsp if you shop around just google the game and spend some time looking whowill be cheapest to buy |

Do NOT buy through the online store. Shop around, I got my stuff from Amazon and probably saved like, $20 off each one compared to Anet's store.
You can probably get even better deals now. Go to your local best buy or circuit city and check through the discount bins. |

Prophecies = original Guild Wars.
Guild Wars Platinum = Prophecies + EoTN. Factions Platinum = Factions + Prophecies + BMP. As you already have Prophecies, its unnecessary to get any of those two combo packs. But they are all fairly cheap now. And no, you don't need any of the other campaigns/expansions to come back, just your login info. If you want to be competitive in PvP, then yes you'll need to get the others but that is what you signed up for in lieu of a monthly fee. |

You don't need to buy anything at all to play. Log in with the account info you created when you purchased the original game. From my experience, some PvP guilds wont admit players that don't have all the expansions, but I think it's safe to say that most guilds don't care.

I found Nightfall at a bargain bin very cheaply. I am interested in PVPing, mainly for a ranger/monk, if you had to suggest one other expansion for neccesary PVP powers, which would you recommend? I hear most of the *organized* guilds wont let you in if you do not have all the expansions, any truth to this?

The more hardcore guilds have requirements like that.
If you just want to do casual PvP, you can do it with what you have. But as you advance, it's going to be obvious that you'll need to buy the other expansions, just for the skills. |

I have all of them an i like Nightfall the Best then EOTH then Factions Last. My brother picked up EOTN this weekend for his son for 15 bucks at Target!! Both EOTN and Nightfall have heroes who you can equip with skills and weapons as you see fit.
