Where are all the people?
Hi,
I started playing GW back when it just came out. Then I took an extended break and am back for a second round. With that in mind, I was wondering where to go to find PUGS from some PVE (I only have Prophesies)? I don't know anyone in the game anymore, and am more intrested in PVE than PVP. I am currently just working through the Prophesies campaign again, but the numbers of people at missions are kind of dissapointing (Not like the 4 - 5 active districts I remember.) Are there still PUGs doing Underworld / FOW etc on a regular basis? Or do I need GWEN to meet up with some PVE people? Thanks, Littleatomic |

PUGS are still around but, harder to find as most use heros now over humans. You can get heros in either GWEN or Nightfall.

Heroes + no new content + anet screwing up have lead to less activity overall as well as less pugs.

the game is four time as big as when it came out, and pve is so boring to play so everyone just grab their heroes with sabways or w/e to make it go quicker.

I say you get Factions and Nightfall before you get GWEN. But thats my preference because I would rather have an excuse not to use ursan.
Also, many solo builds exist with Factions and Nightfall skills. -cough Shadow Form cough- And as those three games have an interconnecting Storyline, if thats why you like PvE, even better reason not to get GWEN (crappy storyline imo, compared to the others). Heroes do make the game easier, and recently I've been PuGing with my new necromancer to bring back the old feeling of what its like without Heroes (or even Factions skills), and I must say, Heroes>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>PuGs, just because of the builds. Monk with Charge!? Ele with mending (that is put on multiple members, even after its stripped MULTIPLE times) Me/W with a.... Scythe? Thats just the weird part of one group.... Good times Also, Pesi is right, the game is much bigger (not so much 4 times bigger, as Tyria was the biggest continent , more like 3.5 times bigger) |

Sadly PuGs are largely seen as a thing of the past now as people tend to much rather "H/H" (Hero/Hench) missions and quests, as the time taken to build a PuG is not worth the effort, and those people wanting to be in a PuG are those with, let's be honest, terrible builds who often can't manage it on their own.
If you're going to play GW for any length of time I would advise buying Nightfall (15 heroes, and a decent-length campaign, not to mention Kamadan is now the main trade hub and there are plenty of decent elites). There are still a reasonable number of people playing Nightfall who still want to form PuGs for the missions. Also, if you want to play in the UW or FoW I would recommend you join a guild which goes down there frequently. FoW is extremely easy with 2 humans and 6 heroes, so if you have a friend you trust, spending a couple of hours flearing the Fissure can be fun with 6 heroes.

It's not that I perticularly enjoy weak PUGs, I just don't realy know how to meet people / join guild without meeting them in PUGS ... If you know of any PVE guilds that will accept a compleet unknow, please let me know
I don't realy see the point of playing an online game if I'm just going to H/H the entire game, never able to meet / join up with other people. |

If you enoy to be in PUGs like me , this helps a bit: I have multiple characters at different stages, so you can switch between them to look for a PUG. But I have all campaigns, it will be more difficult with just Prophecies. And you don't have to mind to divide your attention/playing time across more characters.

I've met a number of good friends through the power of the PuG, and Alliances have formed so it is possible. Alternatively you could stand in Lion's Arch or Ascalon City (or any major town really) and watch the "Please join my guild" ads. It may require "Guild Hopping" for a while as it's more of a trial and error method. Beware of people shouting "FIRST 20 PPL GET 2 BE OFFICERZ!!!!!111!!ELEVENTY!!"...they're never worth it! Edit: Oh, just an FYI: This forum has a section devoted to Guilds: PvE Guild Recruitment PvE Looking For Guild

Well If your looking for people to play Prophecies, I have two characters I'm trying to get thru. I've seen alot of people going to the underworld and FOW but I believe they are only farming. You want to meet people for a mission, just say your looking for a group to do the mission and Bonus (if your doing them). People are right on here, you will find people with bad builds are leave in the middle of the mission. PUGS are a lottery lately, depends who you group with.

PuGs killed themselves. Heroes were just a refuge from the bad builds.

Did Heroes kill PUGS - or the predominance of the 'younger' player who thinks only big hunky Warriors and nuke Eles are worth taking anywhere?
Discuss... I'm sat here with hard-hat on and popcorn ready for the debate Our guild still PUG's if we're at a loose end - we've recruited some and we lost some (and the odd few who you see play and think - OMG how did he/she get to Yaks?) so we enjoy it. If you want a Guild then have a look at us - we have a small website listed in my profile and PM me. We are friendly, we are international and we don't have many rules - PM me for more or whisper me in game |

If you want to play with people, I'd say you search for a nice guild or so.
But yea.. people prefer to play with heroes/hench atm, but imo that's no wonder. When you try to get in PuGs you will get people with either a bad build or an ursan. I do agree though that you can meet very nice people in PuGs. Last edited by Thierry2; Jun 10, 2008 at 04:18 PM // 16:18.. |

I don't think Prophecies is completely boring. It does get interesting when you get to the Crystal Desert. On the other side of the coin, it is the oldest part of Guild Wars and I would say 1/2 of the people that play have beaten it. I also do agree Heros did help kill the PUGS, Heros you can set them the way you want and not worry about them leaving after you have gotten the bonus.
