My Thoughts on Black Bye Farming (Pre-Searing)
Well once again here is a thread about the dye farming in Pre. I am also aware of some of the other threads that have been here but I never responded to them.
So My question would be: Have you had a similar experience as me in dye farming - black that is in Presearing? My findings. In presearing if I kill over 100 enemies all my myself, slowly with my lvl 16 war I get a 1 or 2 black dye a week. I play 4 hours a night, 6 nights a week. What I do is kill the baddies outside of the fort, over and over again for about an hour. Then I go to the northlands and kill the oaks that are lvl 5 and the grawls and of course the charr. I will get a black dye often this way. I did see 2 black dye drop for a low lvl player in one night with me in the northlands. I take low levels just for fun sometimes as my purple drops are more frequent. I solo farm in hardmode from time to time with my other war in eye of the north. That toon has never gotten a black dye but has killed way more baddies as it is almost at 5,000,000 XP. Question? Does Presearing drop Black Dye to give the beginning player a chance to start to acquire some wealth for armor and weapons before they go to post? |

Nope drop rate is the same just easier to kill them in pre. and you wouldnt know who killed more since your level 16 in pre stopped gaining xp a while back so you pre might actually be at the same level as you post war. sorry that was off topic. Simple answer is Black dye drops at the same rate(supposedly) in pre and post just pre things are able to be farmed quicker.

I found pre-searing to drop a lot more dyes, in general, than post.
And it's not just the number of mobs you kill either, since there are significantly more mobs in higher-level areas, but even when you go with a party full of humans, black dyes are really rare. Now it might just be luck... |

I got "4" BLack dyes in a "Row" on my Assassin, IN NF.
XD I was very happy for a few minutes. It was on that quest in the nub island that you kill a lot of spawns of skales on. |

My theory
fixed number of items that drop in Pre searing Fixed number of items that drop in post searing Since the number of items in post searing > presearing the chance of getting a black dye in post searing is less. Think of it this way if you have a bag with 10 different numbers in it what is you chance of getting the number 3 Now if you have a bag with 100 numbers in it what is you chance of getting the number 3. Just a theory. Overall I have accumulated about 20 black dyes in just under 3 years of playing. I am pretty sure there is a thread on this that goes into much more detail |

Well its just like johny said, there are less drops in presear, so you have a much greater chance of getting dye drops. most ppl keep a permanent presear character, i know i have one, and i use it to farm blk dyes across the wall all the time. i rarely get any dyes in the actual campaigns, ive gotten about 3 over my 1 year of playing, but ive gotten between 10-20 in presear, not to mention all the whites and other dyes. but johny is correct in his theory because there is a significantly less amount of drops in pre than in post, making the dyes drop much more often.

Only 20 black dyes in 3 years? I have had about that many in 6 months. I got like 4 black dyes in a week of just doing raptor farming for an hour a day in normal mode. It is possible the probability of dye drops in general for charr or in pre is higher than outside, but unless someone plans to sit around and kill 10,000 enemies in pre and post and keep a careful record of the amounts of black dye drops, we won't ever know.
Additionally, I think it is incredibly stupid for a person to just sit in pre soley to farm dye. Dye is not the only thing of value, believe it or not. When farming raptors in HM, you will get tons of golds, maybe with max mods, lockpicks, tomes, dyes, and other random junk. And its faster than running to the 3-5 enemy groups in pre, and then rezoning. Don't waste your time farming pre, only reason to be there is for title or if you like the environment. |

The only time I ever got a black dye in pre-Searing was during one of the quests on my Ranger. It was just a lucky drop. I don't think that my perma-pre has experienced the same luck, but I haven't played it in a while, so I could be wrong.

Sorry for the spelling errors... I just got back from the UK and there is a 6 Hour difference between there and here and it is like 9 there and only 3 here and I am asleep at the keys.
Johny's Idea is splendid. That there are less items to drop so the rare items drop more times. See the silly thing is that with me big mobs I do not get the black dyes it is with the singles or the doubles that I get them with. Like a spider sitting on it's own or two oaks in the Northlands. As for staying in pre your statement is correct. I like the area and helping out the newbees. I death level from time to time. You can also make a k or two for helping in the two man setup for the dl. Takes More than half of the time off to set it up as you can pull 2 groups at a time. If someone doesn't pay, you just run out the portal. |
