Guild Wars Factions Platinum?
I plan to buy factions after I finish prophecies, I was looking at walamrt the other day and all they had was the platinum for $49. I have the regular platinum that came with eye of the north, this one says it comes with the bonus mission pack and the game of the year of the edition of prophecies. So is this a better deal and what is the difference between regular prophecies and the game of the year? Also do I have to install anything from the disc or just use the product keys? Thanks in advance.

I would say it's a better deal. The difference is that GotY Prophecies has 7 max weapons that can be re-obtained through using /bonus as many times as you like. There is a Divine Favor icon, Energy Storage off-hand, Domination Magic wand, a Flatbow, a hammer, a shield, an a Curses staff.
I don't think you have to install everything, as installing Prophecies the first time got the client. It would help to install though, as it will get a chunk of the files onto your computer without having to load them upon logging in. You will have to use a product key. Oh, and if it bothers you to install or load, you can use the -image command. |

If you already own the reg platinum (proph + eotn), this is basically a waste. All you get is factions + BMP for $40, which you can buy seperately for $30 or less. Even if you want the worthless GotY weapons (not upgradeable to something useful), those are just an extra $5 from the store.

Not many places sell Factions alone anymore, FoxBat. And, at least in my area, when it does appear on its own, it's $30 (so $40 for Factions PE with the $10 BMP is fine - especially if you count the $5 GotY upgrade).
As for the Game of the Year items, they're not worthless at all. Well, not all of them, anyways. http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Guil...e_Year_Edition ...has all the details, though it for some reason has the Tiger's Roar wrong (it's actually Half Skill Recharge on Spells for Fire/Air, not Half Casting Time). In short, the Tiger's Roar, Serrated Shield, Rhino's Charge and Nevermore Flatbow are excellent (and the latter two can be upgraded with a suffix, though you can't salvage the mod off of them again and can't change the prefix), and the Wolf's Fury & Luminescent Scepter are fairly useful (upgrade 'fairly' to 'quite' if you like Half Casting Time over Half Skill Recharge). The Soul Shrieker is pretty much garbage, however, except for one thing: unlike the GotY offhands, or normal staves, you get the full white Energy bonus (as well as the blue, so +15 total) even if you don't meet the requirement, so it's actually quite good early in the game... http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/-image I'd buy factions without the bmp or the goty upgrade, but that's just me. |

I had a hard time finding an actual box for Factions. I finally located one for under $20. Check Best Buy, Fry's Electronics, and especially Circuit City (I have had the best luck with CC.)

Amazon is selling Factions for about $18.00 and Nightfall for around $20.00. So if you're going to spend $40.00 you may as well go through them and get both games, if you can go that way.
