The question is not why you would, but why you wouldn't. I've never played WOW so I won't comment on it. I've been playing GW for 3 years and although I find it repetitive I keep on playing and find new ways to enjoy it. So my advice to you would be to give it a go if yr sick of WOW cause it can be a lot of fun.

Guild Wars owns WoW. WoW is like grinding, grinding and grinding. U get addicted, u think its the best game in the world.
Guild Wars is about fun, doing things in a team, faster combat, and about nightfall, it the worst guild wars, just try the prephocies begin and u stop immediatly playing WoW. And about AoC, there are atm 700k players there, 30% stopped playing (just like me). It isnt a super good game, nice for a couple weeks but then "Im lvl 80, theres nothing todo anymore " And with charm animal, find a pet and use the skill on the pet |

Guild Wars and WoW both have their advantages. They are completely different games. Personally, I play both. I play more Guild Wars than WoW, however.
It all comes down to you being OK with instances or not, feeling the need to grind or not and whether or not you prefer skill-based combat to gear-based combat |

I just started playing Guild Wars (Proph) a week or so ago and so far am really enjoying it. I still have a lot to learn though.
I still have my WoW account. I log in once in a while and un a heroic or two or arenas with my guildies/friends. With WoW PvP, it's all about gear. And that's fine except you know that you have to prepare yourself for weeks of tedious grinding, maybe even months, just to equip yourself to even compete. You could have a main that has run arenas and BGs forever and is all decked out. If you suddenly get the itch to try a new class out, it will be forever before you can have the gear to compete. You will go into arenas knowing that you will have your *** handed to you until you gear up. And when you think about it, you can average one piece of gear about every 5 weeks, longer for your primary weapon. That's a long time of getting /spit on and /rofl'ed at in arenas and BG's, knowing that you have the skill, but just haven't put in enough time to get the gear yet. It gets old. Or if you go the PvE route, you can grind heroics/khara/whatever for badges. And hey, maybe in 5 or 6 weeks you will have enough badges to upgrade a belt or something :/ And the kicker is that to play PvE and PvP (for most classes), you need both sets of gear so your grinding has doubled. You can't (or shouldn't) PvP in badge gear, and you shouldn't raid in PvP gear. I don't have enough experience in GW yet to know if/how much better it is, but so far it has been fun and fresh and new. |

I've got 3 70's and an insane amount of /played time in WoW. I enjoy GW overall much more. It's a different type of game -- if you go in thinking it's a WoW style MMO, you'll get frustrated.
I enjoy being able to change my spec at any time, I like the story line. There is no real grinding in GW (compared to wow anyway), and the team dynamics are better. I do wish there was a bit more in the way of armor skins and environment avail, but nothing to the point of absurdity. |

Well I started out with Factions. (I guess the Assassin chick on the box attracted me to it rather than scary looking Eve LOL)
Anyway, immediately I was hooked. Now, I will admit that I have NO experience with other MMO's, including ZERO Everquest, and ZERO WoW, so maybe my comparing abilities are limited - they are. I don't really know what it was that made me stop playing all other games in my possession, but something did. I bought EotN soon after Factions, then followed up with the other two campaigns. I was so proud of myself when i completed Weh No Su, when I first tamed the Black Moa, and when adding Jora to my Hero group. Now I am finding extreme pleasure in helping others. Whether it is donating collectable drops that I don't need anymore, or offering advice, or helping on missions. Although I have not finished a single campaign or EotN yet, I am living this thing, not just storming through to the end. It's what you make of it, not what everyone else says about it. The best advantage GW has over WoW is the graphics. They are amazing.

I played WoW up to lvl. 60 on one character, with several others in the 20-30 range. On Guild Wars, I've only played Nightfall, and I hit lvl. 20 not too long ago. Purely PvE on both games.
GW pros: 1) Travel: Travelling around in WoW is ungodly tedious. It's an unacceptable waste of precious minutes off of my life. I won't say any more about this. 2) Gear and skills: You can have very decent gear and skills by the time you reach lvl. 20, and you can get gear and skills with the best stats available a short time after that. There is no farming for 5 hrs. in order to get a new sword that does 1% more damage, and which you have to pretend makes a humanly noticable effect on gameplay. WoW pros: 1) Graphics: I actually prefer WoW graphics simply because it's easier to see what is going on. My biggest beef with GW graphics is that every creature has it's name permanantly displayed right in front of it. When they are grouped up, it's hard to see what you're fighting through the 5 or 6 lines of text. 2) Gear and skills: The downside of getting the best stuff early in GW is that, very quickly, there really isn't anything you can get that improves your character. In Wow, when you get new skills, they are in addition to your old skills, so you gain something. In GW, you have to swap out a skill that was probably equally good. So, in summary.... I quit WoW because I was very annoyed by how ridiculously long it took to get even the smallest boost to your character. In GW, you get a whole bunch of options right away, but now I'm in a situation where I feel like I don't know why I should keep playing my GW character, even though there are tons of quests left. I've looked at what skills I don't have, and I can honestly say none of them are better than what I have now. My armor has the best stats I can get. I'm getting gold, but have no idea what to spend it on.... Still, I couldn't go back to WoW for the reasons above. |

Why should you play a MMORPG at all, it's pointless or a waste of time, go learn a real skill, work overtime, get a real hobby

From my some-what limited experience in WoW I can give a few things that GW definitely has better.
PvE Being good in high-end pve in GW is all based around skill, as each party member can have only 8 skills with them in any given area, and in all but 2 high end dungeons the party limit is 8 you have to coordinate the skills that everyone takes along, that they compliment each other and synergise. Maximum equipment is easy to get, it's how well you can play your build is play it in the team that determine success. Now this has partly been lost to a large ammount of players dew to an extremely overpowered pve only skill from the last expansion (Ursan Blessing) but I feel you're missing out on 99% of what GW pve is about if you stick to using that. I'd try and find a guild that still uses actual builds instead of 1 skill to own them all. PvP About the same what I said about pve, but now instead of facing opponents with fixed skill bars, you're facing people that are doing exactly the same as you, working as a team, coordinated attacks etc. It's all about strategy and cooperation because everyone has max gear. |

u should play gw cause its way more balanced than wow pvp at least, you have 30 horde dudes onto 1 alliance dude in battlegrounds and die before u can touch a skill
