Can you get banned...(a supporter for the poster. Acts of racism through scribbles!!)
Quote:
I'm sick of some racist drawing swatikas on the mini maps. THAT'S OFFENSIVE!!! If Anet is going to allow such things to be allowed, then anet they should be sued for Racial discrimination. Unlike other countries, America doesn't tolerate racism. We actually have hate crimes and stuff I've seen written in chats and scribbled on map from time to time are considered acts of hate. Anet the poster has a very good point! I don't understand why the moderator closed that other thread, unless he agrees to allow prejudice and inappropriate sexual behaviors allowed in GW, even if on the scribble map. The scribble maps are meant to guide players through the game, not offend them. |

Anet should deal with issues like that or it would seem they are allowing in even that way, for players to promote hate. |

It should be bannable if it was meant to offend people, but I don't think that'd be the case a lot of the time. It's probably just an immature 12 year old thinking he's cool. Still, the person should be warned that continuing to do that will get them banned (assuming it was bannable). Besides, if the person who is drawing doesn't admit they're doing it then how are you going to get them banned?

Not to mention that hating racists and acting upon it is also a hate crime in many circumstances. I'm sure you feel justified, however so do those other people. I'm not particularly fond of hating anyone though no one has to like everyone. |

Phantom Flux: while I agree with you that such people should be banned, Anet does not have the manpower to watch what every single person is doing all the time. Even if you submitted a complaint, bringing it to their attention, who are you going to be naming for them to "watch out for"? It's just not likely to happen.
The best thing to do is Ignore them. Whether it be an immature kid or a true racist adult, their actions in a game like GW have no power if you ignore them, like they don't even exist. If it really bothers you that much, just never party with anyone that was there that time and you're all set. |

Agreed with Phantom Flux. I don't want to make myself sounds like a victocrat or a little bit off the topic, but I wanted to share the experience I had with those ignorants.
Since Guild Wars the guild of the week and Beckett Massive Online Gamer magazine had nominated my former guild Elite Deaf Team including myself. I have received overwhelming number of audism (yes, it's a word and no it's not autism) against deaf people including myself; deaf mute, omfg I didn't know those deaf people play gw because I thought they're too dumb to use gw interface, haha you're deaf and I'm very sorry for your parents to have you, are you American? I thought you're illegal foreign in the us because you're deaf, etc etc. I find it very offensive and unsavory to me, I don't know why those ignorants acting like an internet charlatan gangsta or some ninnyhammer tough wannabe treated you like a shit to make themselves feel better. I do supports 1st amendment 100%, but I find these words are unsavory. Yes, I did reported to Anet, and they didn't do anything to perma-ban those people due to hate crime. |

If you are uncomfortable with a person then it is your responsibility to put them on your ignore list, or if your in a team where people are drawing a swastika on the map (which I am not offended by) or writing words with derogatory meaning (again, I am not offended by) then it is your responsibility to leave that team, ask in party chat (politely may I add) that they stop and if they don't then simply leave, the whole game can be done with heroes/henchmen anyway so you can't really complain about not being able to solo. If you want an example of the internet at its worst (and sometimes best) then check out 4chan's random board, that will show you how unregulated the internet is and that you should be glad not many of those people play Guild Wars. |

I may have missed this, but did this happen in an outpost or an explorable? If it happened in an outpost, you could /report for verbal abuse (he admitted to drawing the offensive images, yes?) and send a screenshot to support. Contrary to popular belief, the /report system does work...just not as often as many of us would like it to.

Mini map drawings are easy to ignore, and are not in and of themselves malicious often.
The swastika is originally a hindu symbol for peace. A swastika is in and of itself not offensive. It only becomes offensive if the person was saying stuff in the chat to suggest they were drawing with racist intent. That is then verbal abuse and can be reported. Yol -- GWO = GWOnline [GWO] guild, or what do you mean?
Phantom Flux -- I wish "America doesn't tolerate racism" is absolute, but it never happen for many years. We do have expensively long history of racism in America: Indians (native americans), Black -- slavery, black code, Louisiana written exam, jim crow law and "separate but equal", French, Jewish, Italians, Irish, Asians, and right now we're dealing with middle-eastern and hispanics racism. When the US "introduced" an new race in America that caused people disgruntled with the "new race". It takes a while for them to accept the "new race" and then those derogatory terminologies that used often and racism disappeared. The best weapon to prevent those derogatory terminologies and racism is ignore them. They will stop, eventually. |

on-topic - all you can do is report or ignore...one sadly under-used, the other sadly over-used. |
