Bad Name Suspension
I`m new in this forum.
I have prophecies edition and played GW for long time, and still playing atm. So today I tried to log into game but... Suspension for 62 hours (Bad Name) I emailed Support and they answered that one of my more than year old characters has a bad name. This character is one of my first, done most of missions and also created new Guild. My character`s name? Xx Uranus Xx Now I cant understand how offensive, rude or inappropriate can be this name. Any idea? My english is poor, I am from Peru and still cant understand it. |

Uranus = Your Anus. Don't worry about it ncsoft/anet or whoever manages the damned accounts now is retarded and don't realize that Uranus is a planet, and something to do with Greek mythology.

The reason for the Suspension is the word "Uranus" can also mean your Butt. So that is why you got the suspension. Guild Wars will Suspend anything that could be taken offensive.

o... thats it?? I put that name because of mithological Uranus, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uranus_(mythology)
Edit: Never imagined that meaning... Sent my apologies to them and asked for suggestions... Last edited by dantevillalobos; Aug 06, 2008 at 01:34 AM // 01:34.. |

Reminds me of a kid I used to know who, during his introduction in first day of school, said "Hi, my name is Seymour. Seymour Uranus..."
People offended by such things appear to have given you that ban. |

What is bad is that you will be asked to either rename the character or delete it and start again.

I can understand how someone who doesn't know English as a first language doesn't understand that homophone. Still, it is an understandable ban. People who name their character's "skeet shooter" as a reference to guns have been banned because of the reference to... certain anatomical fluids.
Now, anybody can play dumb, but that doesn't remove the double meaning. Also, if a.net unbanned everybody who "didn't know" then no bans would stick. Everybody would plead ignorance. So your ban will still be inforced. Anyway, Adamo is incorrect, your character will not be deleted. I suggest you just wait it out. When you are unbanned, you will be forced to change that character's name before using him again. After you do, you can continue as normal. Nothing will be lost. All your customized items will still work. It's really not the end of the world. |

Rename your character, "Anets A Nus"
That should be fine. |

That's a really stupid name to get banned for. Seriously, i'm angry on your behalf. I might put Anet as a dirty word on Urban Dictionary and see if it takes off. If it does we'll see if they ban themselves.

Gotta love badly programmed word filters...
But don't feel too bad about it, even native English speakers have been confused by them. When setting up our guild, we could not figure out for the life of us what was wrong with "The Lesser Horsemen" (it took us awhile to figure that one out...and I think its a real stretch of the imagination in any case...) We eventually had to settle on The Lesser Horse Men. Which isn't half as cool looking... but the silly-ness of it all still makes me laugh. |

To the OP: That sucks, and I can't believe they banned you for that - obviously they don't know the names of the planets. |

*facepalm needless to say, the system needs some fine tuning, since it seems to operate on the same AI level as a MS Word spellchecker... but at least explaining our new name provides some entertainment... to the OP: We, as a guild of Lesser--whatevers, feel your pain! |
