1. Farm UW to at least 100 ectos.
2. Find something to buy for cheap. 3. Sell it for a higher price. |

The idea is to buy things in demand for high prices, but to buy them for much less than what many will pay. Then you resell the item for that price most will pay, and even more. Example (with made up numbers):
You sit in Kamadan, and see someone selling a Mini Gail Grey pet for 100k+10 ecto. Since that is a new mini that only comes from a special promotion and there are less than 50 in the game, people are willing to pay 100k+100ecto for one. You talk to the seller and haggle him down to 100k+5 ecto. Next step is to sell the mini for a higher price. Since many people will pay 100k+100ecto, you start by asking for 100k+150ecto. If patient, you can usually get more than the 100k+100ecto, but even if you sell it for 100k+10ecto, you came out 5 ecto ahead. This takes a very good market value knowledge. If you don't know what people are willing to buy/sell stuff for, you won't do this very well. If you don't know how to sell well, it will take a long time to make money with this, as you will spend hours or days looking for someone to buy from you. Since you want to be using high end items for large amounts of money, having enough ecto in storage to be able to afford the expensive stuff will help. So although very simplistic, holymasamune is accurate. |

If you are completely new to the trade, I would recommend the 'rags to riches' approach. The problem with the simple answer is that if you don't have enough experience it is quite likely that it's you who ends up buying dear and selling cheap.
There isn't any lower limit to power trading. Hang around in Spamadan and keep a mental note on what is on offer/demand and at which prices. Buy the occasional lockpick at 1k from somebody who got it as a drop then sell them at 1.25k to people who actually want them but weren't there when the original seller was. There are numerous weapon mods in the 0.5-10k price range that are traded infrequently enough for you to be able to buy low and sell high because you're providing a service by being there and facilitating the trade. Tomes are in this price range as well. From there you can expand up to 10-100k price range by trading, e.g., desirable weapon skins and minipets and once you get the hang of it break into the 100k+XXe domain as an experienced power trader. This way, you'll pick it up along the way and you're less likely to make very large mistakes. |

Two things that work pretty well for getting your starting sum, is buying ectos/Z-keys cheap and selling high. Since the ammounts are pretty high, it works pretty well.
For example, say you start with 50k, buy ten Z-keys for 4.7k each, then sell them for 5k each, you have made a profit of 3k. Now you have 53k, so you buy eleven keys for 4.7k each, then sell for 5k each, making a profit of 3.3k. Now you have 56.3k, etc. The profit seems pretty small, but since each trade goes so fast (even if you stand still in the same district of GtoB) you will have the few hundred platinum you need to start real powertrading in the blink of an eye. |

To generate some cash flow. Try making a Pre-Searing toon first. You can farm Hunter's ale at lvl 5 without too much effort. Make a FEMALE toon. People like looking at them.
Farm for 1 week straight. 1 week is not that long. you can get 3 stacks of hunter's ale and sell them for 75K in pre or even more in post. The only take up 3 slots in the inventory. Or stay there another 2 days and get enough ale for the lvl 1 of the title and sell that for 100K Then follow the advice of the person above. Remember do not just rip people off. If you do that you will never have repeat customers. Also remember that those customers are in GUILDS and ALLIANCES. Join a guild or alliance and ask them if they want to sell stuff or get rid of things in storage. This too will generate funds free for you. I have given away req9 Platinum Blades to my guildies before. I even gave away my Dragon's Breath Wand with 40/40 to an ele in my guild. The Forget me not I paid 25K for alone. The wand I found on the ground. So I gave away a 50K sweet looking mod. I am sure that if you get into the right guild you will find this to be the norm as you can only hold so much stuff in storage. Also get some cruddy things and bring them to Ascalon or other beginner places. By Cruddy I mean req10's. Sell them there as a MAX damage GOLD item. You can get them in LA for cheep city and sell them Ascalon cause the people in Ascalon do mo mind spending 10 more attribut points for max damage and they go through the game. The do not even care about the skin. You could even craft shields and swords that are "Charrslaying" in GW:EN and sell them in Ascalon. I was thinking about doing that myself. For 5K + Mats you can craft a Perfect set of Charrslaying items for those in Ascalon. Sell them for 10K each..a fair price and make 3K per or something. This will generate funds for you. You will need 100K + 30 ectos just to get into the game. That is your first challenge. |

You can use 100k instead of ectos. But it'll take a little longer.
So I've been told anyway.
