How populated is guild wars nowadays?
I'm thinking of really getting into it, but it seems like it might sorta be a dead game.

It's not dead if you're new.
Oh, and to answer your question, theres still a lot of people who play it. And for the areas of the game which aren't as populated, that's why there are heroes and henchmen. |

It's not dead, just spread thin. There's a lot you can do with just hench but try and find a good active guild or a guild in a good alliance.

/sarcasm off Seriously though, how does one find that kind of information out? I know in fps games you can just check the server list, but for gw.... I really do want to know! /sarcasm on Note to self: get back to the mother ship and continue to beam numbers into Rhamia's head. Muahahahahahaha! |

Yeah, but at the same time, special events are the only time where 90% of the GW population will be centered in the same places/towns, making it actually possible to guess how many people are online.
Just keep in mind 4 million copies have been sold. That random 29k number is WAY too low. |

It's still possible to get teams together, just have a little patience. It's not dead, just a little sleepy.

Arenanet does not release numbers for active accounts. I would guess it's ~1 million.

Well, beside that rather random number there I don't think anyone knows.
But what counts for me is: A). Still have a very active guild and alliance B). Still enough players to sell mods and rarities to me in major trade hubs (Kamadan AD's) C). Still able to Pug a bit here and there (DoA, UW, AB, HA), although I admit it's not noob friendly places and newcomers might have a hard time in those areas. D). Still able to get a game without waiting toooo long in HB or GvG; with mediocre ranks that is. Not having felt that I miss a larger player base, although in HA for example it's either highly organized ranked guild groups or totally random no-vent groups. So yeah its thinning out but doesn't affect me personally. Seems like everything concentrates though on American Districts more and more. Euro english is a desert by now in most places. |

ok the one million quote i feel is way too much, think bout it
i my self have 2 accounts main has all 3 games plus gwen, account 2 has factions and nf. wife has 2 accounts main with all 3 +gwen, second with all 3 no gwen so between wife and i we have purchased 12 copies of the 4 to 5million that have sold. i have seen people on here speak of many accounts, one guy him and wife each had like 10 accounts, that is a potential of 40 games sold. i would put it bout 750000 people own guild wars ranging from 1 account with 1 game to 1 account all 3 games + gwen to alot of people with multi accounts. now based on guild / alliance activity not only in mine but in other guilds i know average guild activity is bout 20 ppl per 24 hours active on average out of guild bout 50most ppl have other games, work, school keeping them busy so game when they can find time. this game is setup as a game when you have time which is why ppl like it that still play. no monthly fee pressuring them to log in daily. my personal guess based on 2.5years of steady gaming and some days watching and selling there are most likely less than 100000 logging in over a 24 hour time period, and i would say number is closer to 60000 now 100000 ppl per day logging over 24 hours works out to 4166 per hour logging in now if we average over 4 games that is 1041 per game including gwen per hour.if there are say say 25towns/missions places/dungeons per game average that works out to like 41 people in any town at any given time on average and of course certain towns will have more and others less but i feel this is prolly a good guess, from a number i pulled out of thin air. |

but where it matters (actually pugging with other ppl) it will feel like there r less than 1000 ppl online at one time only the most populated areas like uw/fow/doa/etc will it be easy to find a pug non-popular elite missions will be difficult to find a pug random missions will be dependent on luck to find a pug most quests will be near impossible since most ppl that r online treat gw as a single-player game nowadays compared to when prophecies first came out, when ppl actually treated gw as a multi-player game this is, of course, all talkin bout pve pvp is far from dead imo (in terms of ppl doin it) some consider it dead as in stale/boring/not wut it used to be but for a new person, this shouldnt be a factor |
