Is Guild Wars like...? O_O!! - Guild Wars Forums

OK,

So I've had Guild Wars Prohpecies and Factions for about a year now, but I haven't exactly played them too much. (10-20 hours at most) I'm about to start playing it since... I don't know why, but I want to ask whether this is one of those games where you become a successful player and basically become famous throughout the game. Or possibly your guild does. Either way, is it like one of those games where the successful players are known within whole community.

And while I'm talking about communities, what's Guild Wars' community like? Are there funny people with personalities, or are they all like "Zomg, gold Plizzzz plarrzzzz erkkeke". Basically, have you made good frieds with randoms on this game?

Eh, a few people are known in GW, but mostly for the PvP side. Nobody's going to care if you're a God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals in PvE. Some guilds are pretty well known though - TAM is a pretty dominant force in PvE, LaZy is the biggest in PvE, rawr has pretty much owned PvP lately until VoD was removed (dunno since), etc.

As for the community...it's a mixed bag. You'll find a lot of good people and a lot of complete douchebags. Pretty much the same as any online community.

* In both PvE and PvP you can become a well-known person or player. In PvP you get known by being good at the game, being in top guilds, winning tournaments, etc. In PvE you get known by holding or being part of community events. No-one really says "Yeah! Billy John Smith is SO famous he like, totally kileld a jillion charr in pre-searing and the world knows him for it. Yeah!" so getting involved in the community is probably the best way that PvE-ers get recognised. There are of course other ways, these are the two that springs to mind.

The majority of players will go through their GW-life being barely a blip on the radar to the whole thing. This is not necessarily a bad thing of course

In both PvE and PvP there are famous guilds. Usually tied to the above personal achievements thingy I just rambled on about.

* The GW community is mixed and varied. It's a three year old game after all. You'll have people who are jaded and disgruntled and hate everything. You have the people with whiny entitlement issues. You have the people who believe PvP is everything. You have the people who believe PvE is everything. You have people who you can have decent conversations with about anything, and you have people who go "HURRR I SMASH LETERS ON KYBORD. LOLOLOLOL. I R GUD PLAYR. U SUXXORZ".

* There are plenty of good people out there to get involved with if you look around. There are also plenty of people you want to avoid like the plague. Me? I avoid PuGs. Don't care for them, never will. Yet one of my guilds is a bunch of random people I met in game at an event almost three years ago. Got on with them as people that we made a nice little guild together and it's still ongoing just the seven of us.

So yeah. Good luck finding what you're after. I'm sure it's out there somewhere

There is a very large comunity, mostly very friendly.

The PvP side does have a few well know players, but not that many and only known in certain circles.

PvE is basically unknown people.

You really will only find people on forums that recognise others for thier achievements in game.

You can make friends from random pug's (Pick Up Group) but if your going to start your own guild its best to have 6-8 good friends before you do. having a solid core to a guild is essential to making it a success.

The game itself is great. There's a lot to do in the PvE side, even just for the sake of exploration.

As for the community, it's like a bag of Revels. You might end up with the sweet taste of orange, or you'll end up with nothing but the horrid taste of coffee.

Only played for 10-20 hours? Then you still have all the good parts of Guild Wars in front of you. The community is quite diverse, so your experiences while playing with others may differ. Generally my experiences are quite good, expecially in PvE.

Here at the forums you tend to find some more frustration because players who have trouble with the game may search here for solutions (or just vent).

Except, I don't avoid PUGs like the plague - PUGs can be fun if you have a relaxed attitude (which basically means you don't mind failing.) PUGs are much harder to find these days, though - back in the "old days" when there was just Prophecies, there were a lot of people doing the same things, and less emphasis on having the "right" build. Nowadays, people are more spread out, and what PUGs there are are often hung up on exactly what "build" you have, blah, blah, blah.

Good way if putting it Darobra some peeps are complete Gobshites and some are uber. In the few guilds/forums i have been in i have seen enough. As for popularity only real chance of you becoming individually famous is assassinating all the mods on this forum >.> that or reaching max Pvp titles.

Im playing nearly Three years.
back when PUGS were around and people done things together.
i still dont mind pugs(as long as if heros are being taken, i take mine :P)
ive met people in pugs, ive met up with in RL. and others that are still on my ignore list. ^ ^
its totally mixed.
it depends on there mood. your mood.
and what kinda people you meet. ^ ^
i dont think many are Famous.
Hero battles people can be famous since thats a singular Activity.
Guilds Get famous For being Around, and doing stuff.
Pve or Pvp Wise.
like if i was to say.. who remembers Last Pride? Or War Machine.
not many would. But they were famous for a time.
Or billiard And KiSu, for his posts and Reports on things.
Pve Wise. TAM. And GoE(forgive if the tags are wrong)
Are pretty famous. even on forums they post and help alot.
chances of you becoming Famous are small.
but that doesnt mean you cant become well known, "in your own circles"

If you haven't played that much, then you've got lots of good stuff to go through. Also, every online community has different sorts of people. Some people are outright rude, some are very friendly. It varies.

About being successful... well, for me, successful can mean something as simple as 'gj monk' at the end of a run. Famous, not very likely - but then being unknown is a good sight better than being notorious. People remember bad players better than they do good ones, I guess.

I would tend to agree that most of the "fame" is not important in the game. Just a show of how much you played and that you started to play 3 years ago. It seems like if you start now you are at a severe disadvantage for some of the area's of the game like PvP for an example.

However, the people that started the LDoA title are very famous and have been written about even outside the game.

Community is hit-or-miss. I seem to encounter more cynical, harsh, or judgmental people, both in PvE and PvP, especially since I PUG often. But I occasionally run into nice people, but usually by choice and not out of obligation.

There are known PvE players too, whom get noticed mostly from the stuff they do for the community. I'd reckon Racthoh or Shan from DVDF are pretty known, for example.

there is very few nice people and more jerks and troublemakers in this community these days alotta scammers, too many smack talking people and lots of lil kids who are up way past their bedtime curseing like sailors. the gw community is not what it used to be. unfortunately.

those that flame this post are just supporting what i'm saying and those that are agreeing with this post i made are the very few nice ones i was talking about watch and see what happens after this post and you'll see. its almost like a poll.

Well in pve don't think their is much you can do to become well known. And for pvp well you probably won't be known by the time gw2 comes out and they close down the servers for gw1 :S

And well for they community you got your whiners, show offs, smart asses, stupid people, scammers, know it all's, spammers, nice people, people that won't talk to you, and the people that just float around lol.

oh and Eagleblade, the part you said about he gw community not being what it used to be, is very true.....but then again just about erry aspect of the game has changed in some way.
