Best way to level hero pets?
Hi all
I wanted to test how 3 Thumber heroes would work in a vanquish, and therefor I got 3 nice little polar bears for my rangers. But they are still lvl5, and I want that go to 20 So I was wondering what the best method is to level my heroes pets. I dont care about if they get dire or not, still prefer dire. Myself thought jumping into a wurm, but since I just got my lb/ss title maxed I'm really sick of that. Looking forward to more options, Lucy Gwyneth |

Same as others, level them to 20 before you tame them (death leveling - strip your clothes and let the pet kill u again and again until it is level 20), it's fastest but only brings a dire pet.

Or you could get 10 really cheap sup runes, put them on a crappy armor set. (one for you hero) and let the pet kill you both on the shrine. You can salvage/over-write the hero runes without breaking anything.
When it's level 20, hit "charm animal" on the hero. |

Anything you can kill tons of quickly - undead in sulfur wastes, trolls outside Droknars, raptors outside Rata sum, charr in nolani academy... You get the picture.
The pet doesn't even have to be alive to gain exp, or even on the radar. |

DL is best by far. Also, if you do the above and get tons of sup runes, at 60% DP you're being rezzed with 1 hp. If a hero's doing it via [Resurrect], it means you'll die upon rez but the exp will still go to the pet. it should mean that the pet will evolve elder (although I usually evolve dire myself, and haven't tried it.)
I'd use Numa's way if you are trying to evolve a hearty pet. |

Speaking of that... I've always wondered why people would NOT want a hearty pet?
A hearty pet has 120 more health than a dire, definitely useful as the pet will do a lot of tanking, and although its base attack is an average 7 lower than a dire's, most of its damage wont come from the base attacks anyway. |

Why would u use a weapon that has +5energy instead of 15>50 (example), the pet is ur weapon u wont the most dmaage.
Best option is death lvl, then make the hero catch it. |

But pets, unlike weapons, can be killed.
The choice is between one pet which has 420 health and averages 13.1 base damage per second, or a pet which has 540 health and does 9.8 base damae per second. There is no difference in damage from skills (which is where the real damage output of pets is). I just don't see why one'd want a more easily killed pet just because it does a measly 3.3 more damage per second. |

If you want dire pet, the easiest would be is to capture the lvl 20 dire Black Moa pet. He's easy to cap, spawns good and is always dire, also he looks okish.

For my ranger I prefer a dire pet too (esp. with faster attacking the dmg sums up), for all my other classes that don't use the pet as dmg dealer but mostly as tank I go for hearty (even when it takes awfully more efford than dl a dire pet while being afk) because the extra health is great.
My hearty pet tanks Magni way better than my dire pet so I can do dmg from afar and the pets gets the dmg ;D http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/User...ug/bison_arena Ofc if u want your pet to die faster u need a dire one too... so depends for what you use your pet. For my heroes I usually choose that fast way and tame a lvl15 or 20 one XD I didn't try thumper yet but my heroes can't use a normal beastmaster build efficiently. >.> Quote:

My two cents.
Go to GW:EN Borial Station and grab the Boss Scroll that give 175% more Xp for 5 minutes. Hit Hard mode and run with your hero. There are Snow wurms there Kill them for 596/2 XP per Kill. There are 10 snow wurms that you can kiil without dying. Leave the OAKS alone they will kill you. This is how I lvld all of my Hero's from Night fall that started at lvl 15/ I lvld them in about 20-25 minutes. Bring a SPEED Running skill that saves time runnning to kill the Wurms. It should also be noted that when the wurms drop gold they drop 100+ gold in hard mode and they drop Gold and Lockpicks. You will also find 1 or 2 chests here in this location so if Chest hunting or UNLUCKY title is your Goal then this is the place in hard mode. The Drop rate for Golds from the Chest is around 90% So try that. |

But, basically, I agree with you. I want my pet(s) to be basically blockers/meat-shields (plus the occasional Disrupting Lunge, Poisonous Bite, etc.) so I'm more interested in them surviving as long as possible with as little attention from me and/or the healers as possible. |

It may not have been clear in Berek's post, but what he was basically saying was to buy 5 cheap superior runes (any ranger kind) and put them on a hero. Don't give the hero a weapon or any skill that causes damage (or health regen) and no Insignias. You can then DL the hero - rinse and repeat for the other 2. The heroes armor and the Runes/Insignias will not be damaged or lost when you move them around. Last edited by Quaker; Oct 02, 2008 at 03:21 PM // 15:21.. |

The hero doesn't matter for dl. All you need is yourself and a monk that has a rezskill that resurrects with 25% but doesn't teleport.
You strip your armor, you don't need sup runes but they'll help to die faster the first few times. You can use a vamp weapon too or use a sacrifice skill (I used BIP on the monk to get low on health). You just let yourself getting killed by the pet and rezzed by the monk then you get killed by the pet again etc. While rezzing the monk will have aggro but since he's all his armor it's no prob and after rez the pet will aggro you again (since you're weaker) so you can leave the monk in range too. You just go afk (make sure healing skills are blocked on the monk) and when you return after 40-60 min and the pet is lvl 20 u send the hero that is supposed to tame the pet and tame it. |

Well suprisingly everyone missed the real problem.
You... ermm... cannot actually use thumpers in vanquish, at least you cannot use them as good as 3 necro way |

Well, no actually, nobody "missed" the problem. There was no "problem", even you admit you can use thumpers if you want to. Ther was no question about using thumpers either - only a question about leveling hero's pets.
