character name
Before we begin, lets not focus on how childish this name may be.So my buddy wants to make a new assasin. And naturally he wants to use "ass" in the name. Now seeing as it is allowed in the character creation part, he wants to know if he would get suspended for such a name. Thanks.

You can keep a name until someone reports you. Once that happens then it is brought to the attention ANet and then they decide if is appropriate. We do not know exactly what they will decide is inappropriate.

He won't get suspended Anet will just ask him to change the name
I don't believe he will get in trouble as long as it does not insult or hurt anyone who reads the name. |

you can get away with pretty much any name, UNTIL someone finds it offensive and reports you, then its upto a-net to decide whether its appropriate or not. In most cases they will just ask you to rename rather than ban.

It does't make a bit of sense to use a name that you know, is at best, marginal.
You and your friend both know this going in so don't post an 'I been usin this name for 2 years and have bunches of titles and they bopped me' I sure a different, legal name, can be found that your friend can live with. |

OP - Since you started this thread, you already KNOW that the name isn't gonna fly with the overall GW community. Save your friend the hassel and tell him to think of a better name. |

I thought they had a censoring program that prevented players from making offensive names in the first place. I though ass was in that, i may be wrong though.

Your right, you can't get past the naming screen, I just tried it on an empty slot.

Why make a name where you could get a name change for? In my opinon it's kind of ridiculous.
Anyway you could use like 'Badass' or 'Assface' or something to get past the naming screen. |

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I've got something to add:
I just got a 72-hour ban for the name "Ferret The Badass". Go figure. |

'Ass' is not an insulting term, not direct anyway. If a report is the result, then you probably have to change the name, which is quite annoying if you have got any costumized items of some value. For because the name has been changed, you will not be able to use them again. besides that, if the name is insulting, you will not be able to name it that way, because of a spam filter that provides you from using insulting names. I don't think the problem is very high, for I've seen quite a few names with 'Hitler' in it, which is worse then 'ass'.

Though I have no doubt, they will make your buddy change such a name, if it is brought to their attention. |
