You can't. A staff can only be 40/20. A wand/offhand set can be 40/40.
Staff 40/20: Inherent mod (HRT 20%) Adept staff head (HCT 20%) "Aptitude Not Attitude" inscription (HCT 20%) Wand/offhand 40/40: Wand Wrapping of Memory (HRT 20%) "Aptitude Not Attitude" inscription (HCT 20%) Focus Core of Aptitude (HCT 20%) "Forget Me Not" inscription (HRT 20%) |

You will still be able to put a wrap on the staff but it only has +10 energy. Take your pick as far as what is important to you. Most people will choose the enchant or fortitude wrap.
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cate...taff_Wrappings The wand/focus is maxed, but it should have a +12 energy. So it will end up being whatever is more important to you. Prices for mods will vary, typically: Adept staff head (HCT 20%), 1k-3k "Aptitude Not Attitude" inscription (HCT 20%), 4k-8k Focus Core of Aptitude (HCT 20%), 4k-8k "Forget Me Not" inscription (HRT 20%), this one will be expensive, expect to pay over 20k These prices may not be exact, but it's what I have seen in Kamadan. Or search in the sell-section first. Might be quicker and cheaper.
Btw: does your staff have an inscription-slot? Last edited by take_me; Dec 27, 2008 at 02:39 PM // 14:39.. |

I Usually find staves more effecient in pve for a couple reasons.
1) Usually energy managment is not about your inital pool, but by how you cast spells. Elementalists are the exception to this rule. I don't believe an extra 2 will help. 2) Enchanting and fortitude wraps are very helpful depening on the build. 3) 20/20 is enough personally. I never really go 40/20 or 40/40 unless its a farming build where it really helps, like restoration wand/focus for VwK warrior. but these are just my opinions. |

If your looking for a 40/40 illusion combo, then I would recommend
http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Droknar%27s_Scepter http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Droknar%27s_Focus You can pick up two Droknar keys and pay a monk to beat the Great destroyer for less than the cost of the Forget Me Not inscription. I would keep the staff and mod it especially if its inscribable. I love my Ghostly energy storage staff. You probably will not miss the 40/40 that much. |

staves r only good for 1 thing: enchantments
and in most cases tend to be a swap set...not ur main set (also for non-caster classes that need energy...trappers, da sins, melandru dervs, etc) mesmer generally has no use wutsoever for a staff |
