Default Dwarfslaying Upgrade

I've been having an argument with a buddy of mine for the past couple days. He claims that the slaying mods only drop area specific. Meaning that you'll only find a dwarfslaying mod in areas where dwarves are found. I disagree with him. Now what makes my argument weak is, I can't exactly remember where it was I had a couple of them drop for me recently. I'm sure it was either during a Sensali feather run or when I was farming Minister Cho's in hm. So I decided to let the community settle this argument.

Can (crittername)slaying mods drop just anywhere or do they have to drop in areas where said critters are found?

On a related note, where is a good spot to find dwarflslaying mods? I know I still have a +25% charrslaying mod or 2 somewhere and a dragonslaying mod (+19% I think) on a sword one of my heroes is carrying. I think I'm pretty much covered on all the slaying mods except dwarf.

In my days of Gates of Kryta HM farming, I seemed to get a lot of Dead Bows with Slaying mods. I recall getting a wide variety, although most of them seemed to be Deathbane. I know this has been discussed to death to no real conclusion, but it is possible that although the mods are not region specific, the monster that drops them (or the area) has an effect on the relative drop rates. For example, a Grasping Ghoul is more likely to drop a Deathbane weapon than a Dragonslaying. Let me reiterate that this has never been proven to my knowledge, and is just my own speculation based on my drops and what I've seen from others in-game.

iirc I got a demonslaying somewhere in NF. Can't remember exactly where it was/what dropped it, but I remember thinking 'Hey, apparently there are demons at the end of NF, maybe it's worth keeping'.

I've had a couple of demonslaying mods as well and I'm almost 99% sure that they dropped in nf. I just can't figure out why I would remember finding a dwarfslaying mod in Cantha. My memory isn't what it used to be, but I don't think there are any dwarves in Cantha....

Note: What I say is based on observation and not proven, official, or

The only thing I know is that of slaying mods only drop in the campaign in which said creature is. I have never seen or heard of a dwarfslaying mod, for instance, in Cantha and Nightfall - at least that can be proven - same with Yetislaying in Nightfall. Region might have an influence on the drop rate - but I don't think it has an absolute say in where they drop.

I think you meant ogreslaying. Indeed I never saw them in NF but in NF you have giantslaying mods.

@op I think slaying mods indeed are restricted to the campaign the given species live. However I never saw pruning mods outside NF. So they can be restricted even more.

I've seen pruning mods in Gates of Kryta HM farming. I suspect they drop in Cantha as well, but can't recall any specific place where I've gotten such a drop.

I got a skeletonslaying bow mod, not sure where, but I dont think it was in an area with skeles at the time.

A charrslaying mod in Southern Shiverpeaks too.

Slaying mods (and shields/offhands) can drop anywhere, but certain areas seem statistically more likely to drop specific types. Generally this means more likely to drop for the monsters in that area, but this is not always the case.

ANY slaying can drop ANYWHERE.

Certain areas (appear) to drop certain types more frequently than elsewhere.

Generally these areas are for monsters in the area, but not always (nahpui quarter tends to drop Dragonslaying Shields, I've gotten 3x as many as any other slaying mod from nahpui)

Hope that helps.

EDIT : To further clarify, I've gotten charrslaying mods in factions, so yes they can drop anywhere, even if that region contains no monsters of that type whatsoever.

EDIT EDIT : You'd probably want to test those 25% damage mods, from what I recall they were bugged and caused less damage than intended, unless that was fixed.

Don't think they are area specific.

I know for a FACT that I've gotten a dwarf slaying mod in the crystal desert.

Also, I also had a shield with +armor vs Charr (not the same thing I know) from Factions.

For your dwarveslaying question, I get those often enough in S. Shiverpeaks area, though rearely 19-20%.

In my experience, you're most likely to see area specific, because you have concentrations of species. For example, I see a lot vs. plants in Maaguma, maybe because there are a lot of plant species-type creatures there. Likewise, there are many demons in NF (Margonites are demon-type as are tormented creatures). You also have ogre-type creatures in all 3 campaigns (trolls, oni, giants). I have to say, I've never heard of charrslaying (or charr-type) in Factions.

I had a 20% Demonslaying Axe Grip drop in Factions, on a gold Morningstar Axe. I've gotten both +armor and +% dmg vs. Charr in all 3 Campaigns and EotN.
