Why am I taking triple the max damage of elemental spells?
I have a lvl 20 Ritualist with max armor (60)... When I am hit with spells such as Dragon Stomp, Lightning Hammer and Channeled Strike I'm taking somewhere between 280 and 320 dmg in one hit. These spells' max out at around 100.
I can understand not having good armor vs. elemental damage or Rit spells ignoring armor or whatever but, as far as I understand, even with 20% armor penetration the damage should be within the range that's in the spells description. So, for instance, Channeled Strike shouldn't do more than 98 damage and that's while holding an item. Why is it hitting me for 310? Is there something I'm missing? |

i'm guessing your PvE?
its because enemies are above lvl 20 i.e they have higher atts so they do more damage...some bosses have around 18-20 in given attribute thats why they do more damage to you..regardless of your armor |

The difference between levels is part of the calculation for damage. For example, a level 20 player will do a lot more damage to a level 5 player/monster, even if they have max armor.
This means monsters will always do more damage to you then you using the same skills will do to them because they are a higher level then you. Also, bosses have double the normal damage output. |

[QUOTE=dhawke20;4513324]has max...so you should take taking max damage from that skill...unless you have hexes on you...but i don't think anything in xaquang does that apart frm the mes but they don't have armor reduction as far as i know

Hate to say it, but screenshot or it didn't happen. I've taken all 10 classes through all 4 games, and never had an issue with damage being more than it should from monsters. Check your armor again, check what skills you were using, what skills your team was using (anything cast on you that may help the monsters?), what hexes you have on you, and what conditions you have on you.
Would have to be NM as HM the Jade Brotherhood would be higher than level 20. Really need more info, as the info you provided goes against everything seen by other players or is listed on either Wiki. |

Caster damage = list_damage * 2 ^ (((3 * caster_level) - defender_armor)/40), and Factions bosses do double damage. That's all there is to it. Check the spell, the monster's attribute, the monster's level, your armor, and whether the monster is a boss again -- one of those will explain it.

Using the calculator: Caster damage = list_damage * 2 ^ (((3 * caster_level) - defender_armor)/40) Caster damage = ((101+37)*2) * 2^(((3 *24) - 60)/40) = 339.80 Bold is for him being boss. So there you go, at least the Rit boss can hurt you in the 300+ range. A fact I can remember from earlier encounters. And in HM it's pretty much an instagib, 599 dmg if his Channeling Magic is at 21. ---------------- Okay, went out for some testing on my lvl 20 Monk. Level 60 armor, no armor modifying Insignia's or runes, no weapon/shield. Only using healing skills. All on NM. (noticed I was using my staff at 3rd picture, but that's the Deldrimor Protection Staff, so non-important) Ritu Boss hits for 320. Pretty close to the calculations, maybe he has 15 Channeling Magic instead of 16: Ritu Brotherhood hits for 95: Ele Brotherhood hits for 100: So....I'm not getting those insane damages you are posting on the regular mobs. Are you absolutely positive ALL your armor is max? You aren't wearing a lvl 15AL footgear or something? Last edited by Arduin; Feb 28, 2009 at 07:16 PM // 19:16.. |

Okay so I can understand bosses doing double damage. I guess that would explain this... It's not 310 here, and I may have been thinking of Lightning Hammer from the Am Fah Ele Boss in The Undercity, but 234 is still more than double what the description says it should do.
And here is my armor, so for those who thought that I am a moron and didn't know what armor I have... I don't have screen shots of the Dragon Stomp or Lightning Hammer, but I know that it was not happening with any bosses around because I double checked after it happened a few times. If I end up getting some screenshots I will post them. Anyway, I was just wondering because it didn't seem to make sense to me. I figured the spells description of the damage range would include 12+ attributes, for example, if a spells max damage is 100, that would be at rank 24 of that governing attribute, not 12. Thanks for the input though. Last edited by dhawke20; Mar 01, 2009 at 12:25 AM // 00:25.. |

It is more than double what a lvl 20 person would do... but that's a level 24 boss. Lvl 24 do roughly 16% more damage than the listed skill description. Then you take into account their raised attribute levels, albeit this guy is probably no higher than 16. Don't forget the damage bonus for holding an item- this is added into that damage total.

Well, I encountered only a max damage of 100 from a Brotherhood Mage using Dragon Stomp, as showed on the 3rd screenshot. So if you are able to replicate your encounter and screenshot it, please do

.................I said I have a full max armor set and then I even posted screen shots for the other people who thought I was wrong. It is an indisputable fact that I have 60AL. |
