can u add another inscription to it to wipe the 'hale and hearty' one it comes with?

Yes.

You can either replace it or pull it off with a *Perfect* Salvage kit and then stick something else. Don't try and use any other salvage kit.

Not true, you can't salvage it for materials.

True! Apart from that it is just like any other gold weapon in regards to inscriptions and upgrades.
