Trying to Get a Elder Pet
I'm trying to get an Elder Mountain Eagle. The impressive I get is that elder pets are the hardest to get of any evolution. I've looked up guides and all of them only tell me how to get a dire pet. But I've got the basics: Let an animal kill you till it's level 11 and charm it, at which time it should be Aggressive. Is this step correct? I was wondering after this how should I level it up without it becoming dire, instead I want elder. Would death leveling work? If it levels to 15 without taking or dealing damage, then it won't loss it's prefix will it? Or should I try to go for elder with a playful pet? Sorry about the chain of questions, but can someone just tell me what the easiest way to get an Elder Mountain Eagle is? Thank you very much in advance.

get aggressive then get hearty, you will get the balance(so basically death level to 11, then either let the pet tank ask much and just keep healing it(heal as one is good for this) or-i'm not 100% sure this works so dont take my word for it- let your pet die in an instance and dont rez it, it will still gain exp but dont deal any damage

Unless my memory fails me, i got an elder pet with death leveling, pretty quickly too. The wiki has a very in depth guide on how to get all types of pets. I'd go read up and quote it to you, but it's too late here and I'm too brain dead at the moment........ *yawns*

You may also be able to evolve a pet into Elder by taking it on those hm SS/LB runs out of Remains of Salajah (sp.) that are so popular. I think I remember a friend brought a pet along. Pet stayed dead by where we got in the wurms, but it gained XP. Since it never dealt or took any damage, it wound up balanced.
I could be wrong. I'm mentioning it only because it struck me as a really easy way to level the pet if you were doing those runs anyway. I've had the same pet since preSearing. The only intentional pet leveling I've ever participated in was helping a friend make a dire ... something or another by letting it kill me too. |

Pet Evolution StatsHearty: -(~12-14)% damage, +60 health
Playful: -(~5)% damage, +30 health Elder: -0 damage, +0 health Aggressive: +(~5)% damage, -30 health Dire: +(~12-14)% damage, -60 health It is commonly believed that an Elder pet has a damage bonus of +3; however, attempts to validate this have shown that this is not true. dunno what these mean but they are form wiki =) : http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Pet |

A pet with no prefix *IS* an Elder evolution. Elder will not show up until the pet reaches lvl 20, as there is no middle prefix before then. Under lvl 11 you will have an Elder pet, as it hasn't dealt/received damage. If @ lvl 11 it still has no prefix (Playful or Aggressive) then it is still middle of the road. At lvl 20 it will be Hearty/Elder/Dire. Try the Worm trick, pets gain XP even while dead, no matter where they are on the map, this is the easiest way to make sure that your pet levels the way you want it to.

The guide from GuildWiki on evolving Dire pets contains some information on Elder pets. Excerpt is below, with relevant portions in bold. AFK is easy, no?

If you desire an Elder pet this can be achieved by charming at level 15 (with the Aggressive evolution) then gaining experience with your pet without assigning any points into Beast Mastery or equipping pet attacks. The pet should deal very little damage, consequently switching evolutions and becoming Elder or 'no evolution'.
Death levelling is not suitable for obtaining a Hearty pet. [edit] Suitable Pets * Polar Bears spawn close to Boreal Station usually away from any enemies. * Mountain Eagles spawn around the Resurrection Shrine north of Eye of the North * Lions and Lionesses spawn not far from the portal from Command Post into Jahai Bluffs. They are hostile but charmable; all but one will need to be killed before the process is begun. They do however spawn at level 12, making this an even quicker way to gain a level 20 pet. * Lynxes spawn at a Resurrection Shrine close to Lion's Arch. To get there from Lion's Arch go west across the bridge and north to the shrine. Kill all of the weak enemies around the area first. * Tigers spawn right outside of Maatu Keep in Pongmei Valley usually away from enemies. * A Black Wolf or a White Wolf will spawn at the Great Wolf Shrine just inside the cave west of Sifhalla. There are two patrolling enemies that should be killed at the mouth of the cave before commencing Death Leveling. |

i would say desolation is still prob the easiest way to make an elder pet, not sure about the name thing so i would suggest you do this with a different pet than what you want( only if its hard to get like black moa or spiders). not sure never been a beastmaster.
