Some newbie questions !
Hello everyone,
Recently, I've been introduced to guild wars, but I've some questions, mostly concerning PvP, and here they are : 1 ) If I want to play PvP, when I will create my caracter, where do I go to get the gear for PvP ? 2 ) How do I get access to the skills that I want ? Do I need to find them in the Pve world or I can make a Pvp guy as soon as I start Gw? 3 ) If I want to start pvp to be semi-serious pvper, is a mesmer a good option, or they are not that good in the current meta ? Thanks. |

1) You will have very basic equipment usable from the start; simply open your character's inventory and click the Equipment button. You unlock better equipment (mods, runes, etc.) through Balthazar faction, which you get from playing PvP.
2) Either or. You unlock skills (and mods/runes from the previous question) through either buying/capturing them in PvE, or once again, Balthazar faction from PvP. You won't start with a lot of skills, just some of the very basic ones. 3) Depends what you consider semi-serious PvP. Heroes' Ascent, they're not used as much because everybody runs gimmicks, and if there's a mesmer spot open it's almost always taken by a hero (AI party member). GvG, normal Dom mesmers haven't existed for a while (haven't obs'd in a month or so though), it's almost all FC Water, FC Curses, etc. Welcome to Guild Wars. |

further to zelgadissan's post,
if you want to unlock all skills and weapons/mods etc you can play the games as described or if you have some money to burn you can buy the skill packs which unlock the skills for core (available in any campaign), prophecies, factions, nf and eotn. These also unlock the skills for your pve heroes to use but they cost a few bucks My advice is to play through the game and enjoy it though. |

Serious... what does that mean!? With that in mind I'll say as long as you play good and have your stuff down you can probably do good. The thing with mesmers is though you gotta always be alert... get ready to die or run, cast spells fast and at the right time (good timing + keyboard skills are a must), as well as knowing what does what and surveying the battle field. So to start with that might jnot be the best thing but if you think you acn handle it, I'd try it. |

The PvP equipment window is accessed by pressing the "J" button on a PvP character.

Thanks a lot, but I have some other questions.
The gear that I see in the equipement window that is not unlocked is the best equipement that I can have for pvp, right ? And how come some people have some fancy looking armor shields in PvP realm ? thanks Last edited by Svort; Mar 29, 2009 at 01:05 AM // 01:05.. |

The PvP Realm is where PvP-Only chars are locked to but that realm allows PvE players to come over and play (PvE players can get the "fancy" armor you see ALOT easier then PvP). Some PvP People can get fancy armor but it takes alot of work getting points with hero battles or something. As far as the non-unlocked goes, yeah its sort of better, alot better but not having it is not necessary bad you just dont get the extra bonuses.
You can unlock stuff by getting Balthazar faction and going to priest of Balthazar. OR you can buy the unlock packs from the online store when at char-select screen. |

OK here is a better answer to all of this...
Get yourself in a guild. This will give you the option of Jade Quarry or Alliance Battles (AB) AB might be better for you cause EVERYONE dies...Some die a lot more than others.. I was trying an Ascalon Arena War Build last night and it took 6 lux to bring me down at their own res shrine...So while I was doing that for like 3 minutes at a time they were not capping any shrines or getting any points for their team. It was a blast and I died like 5 times so do not worry if you die..alot at first. While there...you can earn some Balthazar Faction - EVEN WHEN DEAD. This "type" of faction will allow you to unlock some skills. 3000 will get you an "elite" skill and 1000 will get you a normal skill. So for as little as 10,000 or about 1 day playing you can have a SWEET build to farm more faction and unlock more things...like armor and weapons. Do not worry about your armor or weapons yet as your armor is MAX armor anyway. Focus on synergy of your build. Every skill doing damage and costing 5 energy or less will let you keep the pressure on. For builds by professions try this... http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Portal:Alliance_Battles |
