Just bought, help needed please - Guild Wars Forums

I just bought the Trilogy set from steam since I hear Guild Wars is a good mmo. I play World of Warcraft as well but mostly want to play guildwars for when I get bored in WoW(which is alot).

I started a Warrior in Prophencies, got him to level 4 and gave him the monk profession. Beyond that I'm confused:

Even though Im level 4 it seems like I ahve more healing spells than Warrior spells. I already have 2 heals, a resurrection ability and a few buffs. For warriors I have flurry, and a self heal.

I guess I did the quest to get to post Ascalon and didnt even know it. Now I have quests that are too hard to solo and do with henchmen.

Coming from a PvE oriented game like WoW I'd like to know about the raids, instances and what kind of gear you can obtain.

You can check http://wiki.guildwars.com/ which is a valuable knowledge database.
You can do quests for more skills or buy some skills in ascalon.

For gears i let you check wiki so you can have more specific questions.
Getting ascalon armor will help you to get more survivability.

Yeah, you did skip a few quests in pre-searing that would have given you more warrior skills. Did you ever make it to Duke Barradin's Estate?
The resurrection skill (i assume its the resurrection signet?) is not a monk skill, its an everybody skill. It's not linked to any professions attribute and can be used by anybody with the same effect.
Never having played WoW, I'm not sure what you mean by raids. But the pve game plays like this: perform primary quests until you get to missions. Missions are a more linear pve instance with a specific goal that helps in advancing the storyline. After you complete a mission, you get another primary quest. In the meantime, you can get secondary quests from many different NPCs in outposts or in explorables. You only ever have 1 primary quest at a time, but you can have many secondary quests. You dont need to do the secondary quests to progress in the game, but they help to get you xp, gold, loot, and skills (in prophecies and factions).
Gear: well, youve got martial weapons, shields or other off-hand, and caster weapons. And you got armor. You can upgrade weapons with mods that you salvage off of other weapons. You can upgrade armor with runes or insignias. When you pick armor, you pick the skin that you like. Then you upgrade it with the inscrips and runes. You have to craft armor at an armor crafter, or you can get armor from collectors (see guildwiki for that info). You can craft weapons too, but you usually find better weapons from pve drops. When upgrading weapons or armor, you have "prefixes" and "suffixes". You can only have one of each at a time. In addition, weapons can have inscriptions. In nightfall, inscriptions are actually salvageable and appliable, but in prophecies and factions they aren't. You have to find a weapon with the desired "inscription".
For more information, go to guildwiki. The main screen has 4 category boxes. You, as a beginner, might find it useful to use the links in the top right pink box. The bottom left green box has a lot of links for gear and the mods that can be applied. The bottom right blue box has links for everything pve (quests, missions, bestiary, etc.) If you like doing quests, I suggest you click on the "quests" link in that box, follow the quest list for prophecies link, and all quests available are listed by area.
Lastly, I would suggest you delete your character and start over, considering you're not very far anyway. You ought to get those warrior skills (sever artery & gash I believe) as they are near staples for the early game. If your warrior has gear you want to keep, but it in a xunlai chest and you can get it again when you advance to post-searing the next time through.

Your only level 4, put it this way, your in a tutorial in a tutorial. pre-searing is a tutorial yes, but getting to max level is training for the big game. (hince why they have eotn is for max level)

There is about ~300 warrior skills, most of them you will get from skill trainers.

You can't use armor from monster drops, you can salvage their armor for items to get armor.

Unfortunately none of my characters gone to Ascalon (level up faster in factions) but if you need help, join a guild. Found is some good advice here.

If your anywhere in factions, nightfall, eotn or anywhere past Lions Arch, let me know and I'll help.

i suggest starting from factions or nightfall becuz the tutorial goes over the game in a nut shell, prophecies tutorial(pre-searing) does nothing for the new player

I suggest you start over (as you haven't gotten far in the storry at all) and do all the quest that you can do in pre-searing and explore it fully. As this will give you a lot of experience and you'll be sure to have gotten all the skill quests there is in pre.
Because it is your first char, I'd recomend staying in pre until level 7-8 or so, just to make post ascalon easier.

If you don't want to start over, you can get new armor from the armorer in post-ascalon, just hold down the alt-key and look around (he is in the crafters corner and has [armorer] to his name.
This because you'll have a lot more survivablity with higher armor.
Then I'd suggest checking the wilki (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Warrior) for nearby skill quests.

There aren't really Raids in GW. There are elite areas which are similar but they aren't as full on as Raids (I haven't played WoW. I've played AoC which seems Raid oriented. Bored me to tears to be honest).

Gear in GW just looks better. The stats are the same as the basic stuff.

Well, the max stats are the same, but throughout the storry you'll be able to buy new and better armor until you get max, cause max is max.

I did every quest in Pre Ascalon I think and it took me to almost level 7. Guess I should do the post searing quest now.

Oh good! Don't forget to do a lot of the skill quests you get in Post. My elementalist forgot to do those and she's paying for it now - has a very limited spell selection; I'm having to go back and do those quests.

hey how does gw work on steam? does it preload the game (many gigabytes) and then when you run the game it only updates itself a little bit, and then you have to create a gw account, and then enter in a key that you get from steam?

Well steam downloads the game which took several hours(probobly cause I was downloading GTA IV on steam too), then I get the Guild wars launcher thing comes up that launches the game to the login screen. I created a new guild wars account in game, and in the Games Tab of steam I right clicked and selected View CD key and entered that in when Guild Wars asked for it.

Well, if you don't have anything left to do in pre, move to post.

Once there doing quests is probably a good thing to do, especially the skill quests. But as you are lvl 7 you should be able to do whatever you want in post-ascalon. I'd recomend going out exploring a bit, being able to map travel makes completing quests much faster, and you don't have to spend time running to get where you want.

Don't forget to do primary quests and missions as this will take you further into the storry (with more dificult foes etc.), and besides, missions is one of the most fun things to do

Whats the endgame(i.e. the level cap) stuff like? I know a large amount of it is PvP content of course(hence the name guild wars). But what do you do PvE wise when you finish all the missions?

When getting to level 20 you have plenty of missions left to to, but once those are done you can start playing in hard mode and kinda do everything again, but against more dificult foes.

Then there are dungeones in EotN (even though most people run them...) and some elite zones.

Getting all max titles. I've just completed a campaign for the first time so I am pretty new to the high end stuff. Anyways, there are players that have found things to do over the last 4 years, so it must be things to do.

Well, once you've done ALL the missions (that takes a long while - I haven't finished all the games on any one of my characters yet, by a long shot), then yes, you can do PvP if that's the way you want to go (personally though I'd just make PvP char if that's the direction you want to take it). Or you can do dungeons (lots of those to play with), try the elite missions, do everything over again in Hard Mode, shoot for titles, or save for particularly nice weapons/elite armors. That last is what I've been doing - trying to get each one of my charas an elite armor that looks good on her. Or, you could do what I sometimes also do - go back to the beginning and do it all again with a different profession, or take your original char and help out lowbies, vicariously rediscovering the game (wow, that sounds kind of silly when I put it that way, but seriously I do like the beginning part a lot, so I'm constantly replaying the game or walking others through it).

Having a good, friendly guild is important once you've completed the game. I may have done the same mission/quest/explorable several times before, but it's somehow still new and fun if I do it with guildies (cracking jokes about how dumb Mhenlo is, getting separated and having to find each other, laughing at drops, etc.). Good times.
