Befriending the Kurzicks
Befriending the Luxons Requires 10k faction before you can proceed in the storyline. |

From the Q&A sticky "For a player on a budget" http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10102502
Alliance Battles are exclusive to Factions. The two tribes in Factions, the Kurzicks and the Luxons, each have an area for players to group together into teams of four. Each Alliance Battle randomly groups three of these teams from each side into a cooperative group of twelve, who work together to defeat the opposing group by obtaining more kills and controlling more shrines in the huge arena. Factions is much shorter, with only 13 missions, two of which are mutually exclusive in the storyline. The game may seem longer than it is due to the questing format of Factions. While Prophecies is more straightforward in that it follows a pattern of “Do mission A, follow quest B to arrive at mission C”, Factions tends to send players back and forth between towns before allowing a player to move on to the next mission. As a result, a player will see some areas of the game multiple times while attempting to proceed in the story. Factions contains only one real grind—but it’s a big grind indeed. At one point mid-game, players must accrue 10,000 unspent factions points for their chosen tribe, the Kurzicks or the Luxons, before moving on in the story. These 10,000 points take quite some time to gain through quests and Alliance Battles—but factions points are also account-based. The prepared player will take multiple characters to that point in the game, accrue the 10,000 points, and gain access for all characters to the next stage in the story before spending the faction points. Apart from this one grind, replaying Factions on new characters is a relatively quick affair—a fact appreciated by some players, tired of Prophecies’ drawn out story, while others are unsatisfied by the shortness.

The story in Factions is laughable. The plot is nearly non-existent, the cut scenes are terrible, the voice acting for Danika in English makes me want to gouge out my ears.
The only benefit of factions is leveling quickly, and SF sins. That and the mission line is the quickest and easiest to complete. In terms of story, Prophecies had the most plot development, though being able to skip parts of it ended up being detrimental. You didn't even need to skip in Factions (you couldn't) to run into plot holes. |

See I enjoyed the story in factions, although I agree with the voice acting, I always found the plot to proph slow and tedious. All the twists are pretty obvious miles off and nothing really shocking ever happens and the climax is non-existant.
At least in factions the build up to the final mission is a good one (palace), then again it also done very well in NF (Madness). |

Personally factions is my favorite campaign almost all my characters are from there (I find Faction's character creation options the best in general across all professions).
some general pros and cons about it Pros
Cons
Honestly as far as campaign story I much prefer it over Prophecies story which honestly left me confused a lot of the time as it seemed to change focus like a caffeinated kid with ADD. Not to mention it just seemed to drag on and on (to date I have only completed prophecies campaign with 2 characters), but I digress, we're here to talk about Factions. As far as the 10k faction requirement at one point in the story it really isn't as bad as it once was; the faction update made gaining faction a lot easier if you don't resort to AB, I really wouldn't consider it a very bad grind anymore as it's easily gained by doing 3-5 side quests in the respective faction's areas. |

Kind of. You would need to start the character in the factions campaign and then switch over to Prophecies later on in the game. It's a bit of a pain, but doable.

If you link all your campaigns by adding the keys to your account on the login screen, then you can take any character to all the campaigns. You can check the wiki http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Campaign_Travel for the details.
