Sparkfly Swamp: How do you live?
im trying to do the Gadd quest chain but i cant seem to make it through the zone alive. The big T-Rex boss patrolling around the first inscription always gets me.
I've tried the fallowing team configs (with myself being barrage ranger): *N/Mo MM *N/Rt Curses *Mo WoH healer Fire Hench Earth Hench Fighter Hench Healer Hench *E Fire *E Fire *Mo WoH healer Fighter Hench Guardian Hench Healer Hench Earth Hench The eles did better than the necros, but still no cookie. |

Bring prot spirit + aegis on your monk(s). Micro if needed.
Secondly try to pull, bring interrupts on your barrage bar as well. If you're really brave bring throw dirt :P. Steam/blinding surge would work too |

as you use a hero MM, you're probably using a bomber build, right? Stick a few points in Prot and add prot spirit and aegis. Along with a healer + curses + fire, earth, monk, monk henchies, you should be fine. I cleared that area in NM fairly easily, although it's very easy to overaggro.
So, flag them behind you, micro PS on you, pull with your aggro bubble, not by attacking, and if necessary, tank, although if you've got a MM, they minions should head in and take most of the agro. |

The big boss is easy to avoid, just wait for him to pass by you first.
As for roamers, I just tend to run straight for them.. soon they change direction but never back at your position. Then just pick next roamer patrol and run for them. Personally I find the raptors particulary easy to kill, so kill thoose instead of other roamers. Just bring AE blind to neutralize them, like [Eruption], [Blind was Mingson] etc. |

Personally I find sparkfly swamp to be quite easy, as in not even a challenge at all, I was just there and gave not even half a thought to it.
Your heroes probably have bad builds, or aren't runed at all, or you're aggroing far too many groups. Post their actual builds if you want more suggestions. Also use my setup: My team setup is: Warrior - Me, mostly useless due to heavy/constant melee hate in Eotn. [earth shaker][for great justice] Hits things if I feel like it, mostly watches Vekk burn stuff. - Monk - Tahlkora [word of healing][patient spirit][guardian][shielding hands][rebirth] Rebirth on micro, monks do not res in fights. My monk heroes own. - Necro - Livia [aura of the lich][animate bone minions][death nova][splinter weapon][dark bond] Minions are the party's tanks. Taking [well of the profane] would be useful against [critical defenses]. - Elementalist - Vekk [savannah heat][searing heat][teinai's heat][glyph of lesser energy][rodgort's invocation][fire attunement] Responsible for most of the party damage output. Note PvP worthy choice of nukes, no firestorm allowed ever. Sometimes I use [searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames][searing flames]. Henchmen: Cynn - Fire Herta - Earth Mhenlo - Heals Lina - Prot NOTES: leave devona, get both monks + both eles. Improve your hero builds. USE SABWAY. You'll see lots of varied answers as lots of styles will work. Myself, I personally never use melee hero or hench unless required (Koss at Jennurs Horde for example). What I noticed, and maybe I read wrong is your choice in Monks. A WoH Hero and a Healer hench? You will want some protection in there, and unless your WoH Hero is a hybrid, you won't have any. For Eye of the North, take Lina over Mhenlo if using a healer hero.
Herta has a very useful skill bar, but I am not a fan of Fire magic myself (it works, but I find other options better). Don't underestimate the power of Lo Sha and his bar, or the utility of Eve and her ability to keep your casters filled with energy. Your Necro heroes would take Blood Ritual to replace Eve if you want, and maybe you already do, but I find the energy boost to the caster hero/hench is very handy. Last one I'll comment on is a missing hench. Zho is extremely useful, but as you are a Ranger with interrupts available, maybe you won't need her. Having someone who can stop the nasty skills from being used on your team is very useful. Either make sure you have interrupts and use them well, or consider taking Zho along with you. My normal team is: Myself (varied profession) Dunkoro (pure healer hero) Livia (minion bomber) Gwen (anti caster/melee hybrid) Lina Herta Zho Eve |

if the warrior boss is a problem for u just bring along anti melee, since u use a n/rt curses than [enfeebling blood]+[shadow of fear]/[faintheartedness] should make him less of a problem, also fix the curses necro on him.

Wiki says Lina has [zealous benediction] as an elite, and I've read that heroes don't use it properly to manage energy. You'd possibly be advised to make a good prot bar for your monk hero and pair it with Mhenlo, who has a slightly more sensible build.

It is also easy for me to do sparkfly with heroes and hench. I go as SF ele with one SF hero and a monk and MM hero. Then i bring monk, earth, 2 melee or 2 monk, earth and one melee. As has been said the melee aren't that effective so I usually just take one as a way to bring the enemy's focus off of me a little.
My heroes (monk and ele especially) always make room for web and signet of disruption. They dont require points in mesmer and heroes use interrupts VERY effectively. It leaves 6 slots for ele and monk to use in their area of expertise which is more than enough. Once in a while I get less healing from dunkoro than Id like and that is when it is good to have both hench monks. As a rule, the setup works everywhere, except obviously versus destroyers or other fire haters |

I think Magma is right, you might need a prot hero or hench there. I might not be wrong saying that you are probably using a semi-sabway team build with two necros. I would use two discord heroes instead, with a N/Mo sorrow discord with [aegis] and [protective spirit].
Also, it might be useful to build up a large minion army before aggroing the boss. I myself killed the boss with two discord necros, a WoH hybrid Mo hero a healer and a prot hench, and two melee henchies, as far as I can remember. I could not avoid at least one party wipe, but after that, the boss was dead. Good luck. Last edited by Arctica; May 12, 2009 at 08:12 AM // 08:12.. |

I am a ranger also I used spliter/barrage sabway and completed the chain of quests easily. I recently changed to ra/me epidemic and discord heroes with degen hench and one monk to VQ also fairly easy.

well, if you are just going to the bloodstone caves, you can get there without any combat. it takes learning the right path and watching the patrols, ie knowing when to go and knowing when to whoa.
