What's a bot? What's botting?
What's a bot and what's botting?
I hear about botters all the time and I hear they roam in Alliance battles, Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood a lot. You can even use a report emote on them. How do you know when someone is botting? |

A Bot is a program that plays the game for you, kinda like a macro but more complex. The term comes from FPS type games, the CPU players run around the maps in a predefined pattern and use their abilities according to their scripted AI(just like the NPC mobs in guild wars). What's going on is botters set up programs external from guild wars that input keyboard and mouse commands automatially, mostly for farming or hitting the enter mission button in AB and CMs. They know exactly where to position the mouse on the screen, know exactly what keyboard commands to hit to get, let say, a 55 monk out of the door of the altruim ruins into arborstone, then exactly what path and skills to activate to kill the mobs in there, collect the loot and /resign out and do it again, no human intervention. used to be you could watch hordes of Mo/Me sarming out the gates, respawning in town and swarming back out in a huge conga line.
Watch their behavior, if they get stuck on terrain features or just stop moving, repeat the same text over and over, follow another character closely(as if they have them targeted and are presing space bar) or are repeating the same skill pattern over and over and it's something generic(like just spamming [light of deliverance] or [heal party] over and over), or are following the same path again and again, or have an odd name like Ctgrtr Bb Q or some random letters like that, you may have a bot. A bot is a program designed to farm points/gold for a cheater who cannot be bothered to play the game , also I would assume by companies that sell gold , if you hang around long enough you can spot the bots they perform the exact same action time after time .

Since nobody else said so, it needs to be said straight out that botting is against the rules and your account can get banned if anet discovers it.

A bot is extremely illegal, and can get an account suspended.

Hm, I'm sure the OP doesn't need this thread anymore, seeing as he is banned AND this is from 3 months ago.
