A Warrior or a Derv?
So i wanna make a melee char either a Derv or Warrior. I like Warrior because the can take a char in pvp in a matter of seconds. They have Hammer/Axe/Sword which you can always switch up if you get bored. They do good in pvp, and have some nice looking armor. Derv can hit multiple enemies at once, and have enchants which help. They also got nice armor like vabbian or primeval.
The thing i head about warriors is that they get boring real fast. I never really see dervs much in pvp, which is a bummer because i like pvp . ~Basically my question is for the people who have played Warrior or Derv for a long time, Which is best for pve/pvp, easier to get titles on, and which is an overall better class for someone who wants to use as a first time melee char for pve/pvp. |

Wars can hit multiple foes at once aswell. Hundred Blades can do 9000+ damage in the right circumstances. Also, they are as good if not better than Dervs at using scythes.
About being boring, it's just personal preference. I've played a few thousand hours on mine and I'm not bored, whereas professions that have to spend a few seconds casting enchants before every fight is extremely frustrating for me.

However, if you find the warriors boring, I wouldn't suggest playing it. Just go with whatever you enjoy. Last edited by Forgotton200; Jun 22, 2009 at 07:22 AM // 07:22.. |

Try making one of each and seeing how you like them?
Personally, I love Dervishes. My Dervish is my main, has had the most time put into her, is the only character that's completed any campaigns, only one that has any titles or elite armor or any of those shiny things...it's my favorite profession in the game. I find it tons of fun. I can't stand Warriors, though, I find playing them incredibly boring. Bleh. |

Well tbh i only play casters. I got 2 Mes, Monk, and ranger, rit, and an assasin that i left to forever be forgotten. I Recently beat all the campaigns and now im intrested in maxing titles but dont know which char to make as my main. I do both like war and derv, i just wanna pick one to keep i just dont know which is better. Plus i dont wanna put alot of effort into titles/armor if im gonna not be intrested in playing it later.

My main is a derv, about 12 months old, not bored yet, I got elite armors and stuff, 12 maxed titles, I also have a warrior which i got bored fast of. IMO Dervish is more fun to play then warrior, but just my personal preference, also dervish is more challenging to play, imo.

I made a Derv, and i still regret it. Warriors are way better, they have kds, interruptions, blocks, perma IAS and a bunch of viable elites while Dervs, besides WS and AoL, have bad elites. In high end pve Dervs have really no use, while warriors can still tank or spam Save yourself! with DSlash.
A warrior never get old. |

I don't know what you would define "high-end PvE" as, but my Dervish has done it all and it was pretty fun. I believe that Dervishes have it easy-mode in PvE because they can spam Wounding Strike while being followed around by a group of Discord Heroes. Who says your friend can't be the SY spammer (or you can still do it yourself) :]
I believe Warriors are better in PvP though. They have so many different builds and high defense for good DPS, spiking, and survival. Dervishes really don't do that well and honestly aren't fit for the PvP scene. PS - I'm obviously acting biased, I tried making a Warrior with Warrior's Endurance with a Scythe and it just wasn't for me. Assassin on the other hand.... I would say warrior, just because pvp wise warriors will always be used or come back sooner or later. This is not only because of the relative high damage output, but also because their 100AL+ which means they take 1/2 damage of somebody that has 60AL. This really takes pressure of the healers.
In PvE there is Save Yourselfs.. that skill alone is powerfull enough to make most HM titles a lot easier. |

if you like pvp warrior all the way
dervs can pump decent damage but a war can pump more consistent dammage. disrupt, knock down and survive does warrior get boring? in my opinion no it has been my class of choice seance gw shipped i have thousand of hours on war in pvp and pve and i loved every minute of it |

I use a Dervish as my main and i have maxed 12 titles in quite a short time but i do have to admit , even though personally i love playing my dervish i do wish the Dervish skill pool was bigger,i have gone through all 4 games storylines and im well on my way to legendary vanquisher and i have basically used the same skill set to do it all.So i guess what im saying is if you think you would get bored of a profession that has quite a small pool of primary skills then Dervish isn't for you.

depends... since i dont pve, i dont know anything about a war in pve, but pvp... sure its probabaly the most overpowered class in the game, with the highest armor, biggest DPS, fastest in game moving speed on average (rush) and can land KDs effectively, but its used all the time in gvg. if you wanna gvg, then prolly play war, if you just wanna mess around, it really doesnt matter. but i guess yeah ill have to say wars since i hate dervs?

Warriors, being Core, have quite a few more skills to pick from than a Dervish. Mysticism synergizes with enchantments, while Strength synergizes with hitting things.

In PvP I never play dervish, only warrior (having a dedicated pvp slot ftw).
PvE is more a mix. I created a warrior on my second account to be able to assist guildies with specific tasks since most of them play caster. My main account has a dervish but I hardly play it. Yesterday was the first time in months that I played some serious dervish stuff and it was fun to pump some damage out. My choice for PvE? Warrior, no doubt. I feel the class is more effective than dervish most of the time. But part of this is because I only play warrior when I feel like it or my team needs a warrior, so I don't get bored that fast. My main title characters are mesmer followed by monk. Guess people get bored from different things... |

Enchantment bombing in AB can be pretty entertaining. It is the one thing I have found that a melee class can do that consistently causes scatter of humans.

definitely go warrior =D only thing appealing about derv is that u can constantly maintain an avatar form with the on pve skill and dervs can run droks, lol. otherwise, definitely prefer war =D

Derv is my best and favourite char.
At first it might be a little iffy getting a gd build with some decent enchants together but worth it. For PVE I always use the Avatar of Balthazar skill. It allows you to tank and lead your party into the enemeis. Also Dervs are one of the best runners in the game if you ever wanted to do that. There have also been some caster builds for derv. I havent used one myself but they can be quite effective. For PVP I use EBA (Ebon Dust Aura). One of my favoutite skills, it makes any enemies you hit with one of your attack skills blind (remember that scythes hit loads of enemies in the area). It will shut down wars and sins, and cripple any kind of profession that deals gd damage. So I think Derv is definatly your best option. I have completed every game with my Derv and are currently doing Hm missions and vanqs! |

Frontlining and playing a melee character doesn't bore me, but then, I can't stand playing a caster. |
