new paragon
I dont see many paragons in pvp and was wondering how they fare against most other classes. I just started one and was looking for a good pvp build, as well as a decent pve build, since i am going through NF content with friends

Well, why there is few paragons in PvP is because Ra/TA/HB has only 4 players in a team, not good for the paragons primary attribute.
Someone has probably an more elaborate explanation. The Paragon PvE build that is most used is the imbagon build http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Imbagon You can find more builds on PvX for your other needs as well. But always remember that a build you know how to play (have made yourself) is always better than the ones that you don't know how to play. |

A series of PvP nerfs for key Paragon skills such as Defensive Anthem has made it difficult to draft effective Paragon builds for anything but the 8v8 formats. Paragons typically fill support roles in PvP rather than damage dealers, since there are still a number of useful shouts and chants. Due to the few elites Paragons have at their disposal, a player will often choose to bring a support elite from another profession, such as Expel Hexes or Empathic Removal.
In PvE, the most powerful option you have is the Imbagon. Despite what a lot of other people will tell you, Paragons CAN be useful outside of this role, such as the Sword/Command build one of the other leaders in my alliance typically runs. That opens up possibilities for bringing Bull's Strike, Grapple, etc.

A 'maybe' fix? If all players bring a mini I think that could ( used to ?) count. Gotta dust off my Para to check |

Paras are invaluable in PvP for HA and AB and such for their party buffs (if mobbing, (not recommended)), or if using speed buffs.

the recent buffs to paragon skills make them much more viable in PvP for roles other than the imbagon. I've not seen a more efficient use of a Paragon than the imbagon in PvE yet, but paragons become exponentially better in groups, and that provides for a variety of roles that they can fill outside immovable defense. PvP builds for Paras are difficult because of the lack of party size in most of the arenas. For ABing, i use a P/A Incoming! Fall Back! command build with AR, Anthem of Weariness, Barbed Spear, Maiming Spear, GftE or Anthem of Envy, and Shadow Refuge with 5-6 in Shadow arts (think i run 10+1+1 spear 11+1 command 7-8 +1 in ldr and 6 in Shadow arts, and with the buff to Help Me!, i'm thinking about dropping the /A and using that as my self heal). You really need a team that works together for this to be successful though. soloing is pretty much out of the question for a Para. (read: i win with guildies, fail with most PUGs) basically Paras have some excellent support skills that can assist in PvP, (IMS thats unstrippable, brace yourself is good, much of the Mot line is helpful to relieve stress on your monk/s) but making a Para a benefit to the team is much more difficult than most other classes. you have to provide pressure, be able to assist in spikes with DW, and need to relieve pressure from your own healers in order for your team to feel you are helping. this isn't easy, and therefore most people think that Paras suck in PvP. (and to a certain extent i have to agree with them, but i'll keep trying builds for mine cause he's generally the most fun for me to play.) |
