PC every gold drop I ever get
Well. I know the PC isn't for this forum, but the main question is.
I can't PC every gold I get in Ventari's Corner. Isn't there some complete list of which items to not merch? What I understand so far (in no way am I claiming any item in this list to be true, so please TELL ME if I'm wrong):
well... is there a list of items that can be sold to players? I'm not a noob concerning the game, but I'm certainly a newb concerning in-game economics... well, at least, in this regard. help? edit: everything between _underscores_ is new and/or changed. anything I still got wrong? point it out! ^^ Last edited by MIB4u; Jun 26, 2009 at 01:20 AM // 01:20.. All that is really needed is to remember the rare-skinned weapons. Obby edges, eternal blades, voltaic spears, crystalline swords, froggy scepters, celestial compasses, bone dragon staffs, and some others are really the only worthwhile weapons to NOT merch. All other golds can simply be merched or sold UnID'd. You can check auction if you ever have doubts as to if one of your weapon skins is valuable or not, and a simple search of the trade forums can tell you if Auction has no info. All of your other info is pretty right.

Yeah, I found myself with the same problems. I'd LOVE if there was some sort of guide that kept track of rare skins, and any mods of value.
One of the TOP things that turned me off to GW is lack of knowledge of in-game economics. |

That is wrong, many skins are wanted by many people, and can be sold for more than their value. People can afford Obby armor by not being lazy and taking the time to sell items to players, not just merchs. It is really what's more common than others and some people may have unique tastes, like, I'm looking for a q10 max dmg sunqua blade atm with a nice inherit/insc. Storage is the win
Chaos axes are also wanted a lot. Also,MIB, 15^50 is only wanted for certain purposes. All inscs have their needs. It depends on your taste. 15^50 is mainly for wars that aren't running special ench builds. 15^ench is mainly wanted for dervs (mainly ench-melee) and sins may want it too, because their health drops easily. 15^50 isn't ideal for caster weps. It depends on the r8 max to be desired, depending on the skin. If it's a chaos axe with nice inherits, that's right. If it's some SUPER common skin...forget it. |

The easiest way to tell if a skin is worth something is to check the wiki if there are collectors that offer the skin. It's that simple, if a max item can be acquired through a collector, chances are it's merch food.
Max q8 foci and shields don't necessarily scale up in value. They have a low enough stat range that it's statistically easier to roll maxes for them than it is for a weapon or staff, and inscribable blues are extremely easy to get with perfect stats (My paragon currently has blue q8 mot and command shields, and my mesmer has a blue inspiration focus, they're still worthless, but saves me a +1 rune slot in my armor.) |

Most things of value are only available from chests at the end of dungeons. So, whenever you go into a dungeon, just check out the exclusive drops on wiki. Anything dropped by creatures is usually worthless, unless its Q8 or something you've never had drop for you.
^Thats my brilliant strategy. also, I wouldn't recommend keeping 15^50s, they are worth about 900 gold and aren't stackable so they just waste space. I have about 11 of them. :/ |

Heres a quick run down
If you get the gold item from somewhere other then an end dungeon chest or end fow/uw chest or zaishen chest and it is req 11-13. Merch it. If you get the gold item from somewhere other then an end dungeon chest or end fow/uw chest or zaishen chest and it is req 9-10 and looks like crap when you wear it. Merch it If you get a good looking gold or from and end dungeon, end fow/uw, or zaishen chest. Then you should be able to find a price on it from price check forum or in high end/sell forums. |

just don't keep mods, it takes ages to sell them and you make 2k from them, in the same time you could've farmed an ecto or so.

Guru used to keep track of the rare skins with guides, but as more campaigns became available, it was harder to keep up with the price changes. Also, if you constantly see the same item drop for you, sure enought it's going to be a common skin and not worth the time to sell it. If you're unsure of how rare it is, you can always do a quick check in guru auctions (not the forum based one). If you see that the skin has a few people selling with a buyout of say 5k, then it's safe to assume that it's not worth more than that. Cross referencing with wiki can also help you out. Sounds like it's a lot to do for a pc, but it really does take less than a minute and it will help you remember what skins are worth something.

It would be nice if the wiki (official or not) could be updated with average trade rates for skins under each of the skins pages. Either that, or a separate website linked from here and the wiki that is kept up by a few good PC'ers from the community with all the going rates.
A lot of skins wouldn't need much maintaining, as their prices don't fluctuate much. For instance, a gold, inscribable r9 gladius generally goes for what, 2-5k? And that price range hasn't changed in 2 years, pretty much. Other skins only fluctuate due to certain farm builds changing and what-not. A specific guide to some of the more notable things as mentioned in the OP would be a great idea, too. I'm always for anything that makes player trades easier - in and out of the game. |

but storage isn't big and will be filled very fast, also trying to sell every skinn will probably take 1hour/weapon wich is really boring and by the time you sell 1 i farmed 10 wich i merchantised for 3k and you sold your weapon for 2k
(wich is the double of the normal value! xD) |

In-game marketplace and we would never have had this issue... but anyway
Just keep an eye on the High-end and Sell forums. When you have free time go to Kama A-d1 and just look at the trade chat until you cant feel your toes and your head wants to explode, i.e. 5-10 minutes or so :P . If you do this often enough you'll quickly see what to keep and what not to. Always ID (even blue and purple) req7 (you never know...) and 8 and check if it is max. If not, merch. Some skins are worthless to most but you do get some players willing to pay quite a bit more than merchant prices for it. (r9 Inscribable Fiery Gladius, for example) Inscriptions, however, are always a tough call... I generally only keep "Forget Me Not", "Aptitude Not Attitude" and energy +5 inscriptions, which I then put on some unused hero's weapon until I need it myself or have time to sell it. |

Even just having the wiki items pages have a one line entry that said = Merch food, or = Do not Merch, would cut down on the PC's and research.
Its tough to have 20 golds in storage and have to spend 2 hrs searching for prices because you dont want to merch some uber rare skin. |

When in doubt, come to Guru and do a search for that item in ventari. Look for the latest 5-10 posts.

Req 9 golds of "mildly uncommon" skins are worth putting on heroes or a mule for a while. Then, some morning, afternoon, or evening, watch the trade spam for the WTB... People are still looking for max, inscribable, gold weps for cheap--in the 5-10k range.
I made 70k one recent Saturday morning doing pretty much that. People want to outfit new characters, heroes, or old characters with new stuff. I'm not advocating wasting your time. Watch for the buyers when you can. That is a far faster way to do business than standing there spamming WTS. But if you hold max, r9, mildly uncommon stuff, you can often find a buyer. My own personal recommendations for keepers: Eternals Storm Bows Briarwood scythes Ancient Scythes (with 2 or 4 claws) Fellblades the occasional Flamberge or Spatha for someone who wants a cheap sword Sephis Axes and Swords Fiery Bladed Axes Oaken Aegis Celestial Compasses The froggies, the obsidians, the dryads and silverwings, the Bone Dragon Staffs Emerald BLADE which is different from the Emerald EDGE (but the edges are worth selling, too) as someone above said, consider the dungeon, dungeon chest, UW, FoW, DoA stuff to be most likely to sell. But don't be afraid to keep other skins. As for mods, I find that sword fortitude +30 mods, focus +30, and all class enchanting mods are worth selling on the marketplace. Again, heroes, especially, get these, for all the "way" builds that people like. |

The only way to determine the sale value of a weapon or offhand/shield is practice. If you keep looking them up on Ventari's (using Search), eventually you will remember which are good and which are not wanted.
Asking for PC on guru is hit-or-miss. You might get a response and you might not. I think the last PC I posted was for a Cerulean Edge. I didn't get a response on guru, but someone contacted me in-game and after discussion, we decided on a price that made us both happy.

where I can inbetween stuff I try to watch the WTB stuff for couple off min if I see something I have and want to sell = bingo sold if we agree on price this way I hardly spent time watching WTS Spam and waiting to have someone to react to my WTS. and personnally I don't agree on just keeping this or that mod, most mods are wanted and I've sold lots. oh and I rather pick up these WTB and sell five things for 1k each then spent 20 just to sell one weapon for 5k. Trust me you make more with more mini sells then one major sell. There is one exception to this rule and that is when it are really rare things! here comes to mind: obby edge, emerald blade, volt spear, ... forget me not incrip, -5/20%, ... , most of fortitudes, of enchanting, sundering prefixes, ... you find that out quite soon after looking at those WTB sessions. |
