It's kind of about keeping up with the trends, too. New OP fads come along and if you get in quick enough to (frankly) abuse it, you usually net some decent coin before it gets nerfed. Call it farming but for some people it actually is kinda fun.
500 hours over 2 years isn't going to get you very far money wise unfortunately. The people you're talking about probably spend several hours a night devoted to simply making money either by speed clearing, dungeon running etc. So yeah don't feel bad...just take solace in the fact that you have a life, and let the rest of us addicts comfort ourselves by looking at our eblades and obby armor. |

When Nicholas was collecting Gloom Seeds, I decided to go for a set for my Ele. While farming the Gloom seeds to sell, I also got Obsidian Shards, made a ton of cash to buy ectos. I also made a fortune selling some minis, like an undedicated Destroyer. After buying it and a bunch of other stuff, I'm close to broke again, just over 100K and a few ectos. I'd like to save up for another set for my ranger, as well as chaos gloves for like half of my characters. :/

One thing I do is save, I save the money and don't buy lots of things. All my chars are equipped with nice items but they are req 10 or 11, I don't care since I always run my main attribute at 16.
I save my money and every time I get over 500k I buy ectos. That got me 4 fows and some really nice armors for other chars. I have not played in a while but when I came back to the game a month ago I only had 500k in storage. I started doing quests and zquests and got it up to 800k. Save your money and that will get you places. |

I'm gonna get me a spiffy set of OB armor here pretty soon. Its about a months worth of work without godmode and about a weeks worth of work with it. Unless you're some kind of mad fiendo who plays 12 hours a day.
My problem is I value mini's more than I do armor. So thats where much of my moneieses has gone. Just got a white wabbit on my ranger. 3rd year ftw during dragonfest. 38 mini's, 10 of which are rares. PS: 40 months and I don't even think I have 1300 hours total. Not sure. |

I had that so bad when I first started GW. I just HAD to have a fiery dragon sword even though I'm an ele and I HAD to have that stupid stormbow that guy was selling... now I'm a bit more frugal and I feel guilty every time I spend money. Getting a FoW set would drive me crazy cause it would be a constant reminder of how much money I blew on it.

Get some cheap extra accounts when they are on sale and farm the XTH. They also make great mules so you dont need to buy extra storage panes.

It doesn't matter if you spend tons on a set of armor, if you enjoy the armor. What else are you going to spend the money on? (and if you prefer that other thing, like minis, who cares? Spend your gold as you like, it won't mean you can't buy food for your characters) I have two characters with Obsidian armor. I spent a whole lot of gold on those, because I farmed gold and bought globs of ectoplasm rather than farming the ectos directly. But I enjoy the armor, so it was worth it. Note that on other characters I really prefer the normal armor, even in comparison to some elite armor. So my enjoyment is not tied to the cost. To answer the OP, I bought one set of Obsidian by farming. A lot. I have a lot of characters, so I farmed in lots of places. A few days as a 55-health monk here, some 55-necroing there, some warrior farming over there... enough variety to keep me from going completely insane. The second set I bought with profits from the Xunlai Tournament House, which took a few months (as in, a few rounds of the XTH, not like it took months of effort). |
