Having a lot of trouble deciding between Ne/Me, or Me/Ne....
I could use some major help here. I really can't decide.
For my play style, I want it to primarily be a hardcore hex issuer. Just bog the enemy down in curses and whatnot. Would Me/Ne be better for this? Second priority is survivability. Third priority is a bit of fun, and the Necromancer's minions look pretty awesome. For priorities two and three, would the choice really matter, or would both fit those just fine? And of course any extra details you'd be willing to spare would be awesome. Thanks for any help! |

The necro's primary attribute, Soul Reaping, keeps your character supplied with health and energy. That means more survivability. While the mesmer is a great profession (increasing the speed of spell casting if the primary profession), it has to use skills to gain health and energy.

necros tend to be a better choice for hex spreading, theyve got access to decent aoe hexes you can use, and have the best e-management in the game (soul reaping) plus you can go /rt and take defensive wep spells protective was kaoli and the likes.
and to fit your last part, being an MM is pretty darn fun, seeing as your minions do all the work and you sit and watch everything die helplessly |

1. I would say go for necro as necros have more hexes then mesmers.
2. Necros have better survivability by blood magic as this steals life and so adds up to yours. 3. I think the soul reaping is better in PvE then fast casting but thats my opinion. 4. Necros are better minion masters as they can raise their attribute above 12. my opinion tough |

i would say that a necro primary wou;d be more effective due to the more efficient energy management and powerful skills(for pve).

Thanks for the replies everyone.
How about for PvP? I really should have mentioned that while PvE will be important to me, PvP will be my main aspect. Is the Necromancer's primary energy consumption really that useful here with players only, without lots of mobs dieing? Last edited by Dharwin; Jul 31, 2009 at 05:20 PM // 17:20.. |

Well in PvP necros are used aswell and are best in stacking hexes with different kinds of effects. Mesmers seems to be more usefull tough if you are good at interrupting/casting hexes on the right time.
So I would say if your not really experienced take a necro, if you think you are make a mesmer. |

Interesting.
Thanks for the input. I think I'll go for Necromancer/Mesmer then. I like their look more than Me/Ne anyway. =] |

I just want to add that if you pick a Necro, you are not really stuck with Mesmer secondary. You can change your secondary profession anytime ad it is fun to do that.

You are speaking about about PvE - aren't you? Than such a choice is important in Prophecies, in Nightfall and Factions you will get ability to switch secondary soon so choice is more like N/anything vs. Me/anything .

Use your N/Me to unlock mesmer skills, then make a PvP mesmer.

This is another consideration - you can create PvP only characters. They start out at lvl 20 and have full access to all the skills and rune/item unlocks you have at the time.
So might be a good idea to play through PvE with one type of character, unlock as many skills as you can via that.. and then create a PvP only char of your preference. If you consider this path, and have access to multiple campaigns - I'd consider creating a new char in each campaign just to unlock the initial skills for use..

Necro would be my choice. For the reasons already mentioned. The fact Soul Reaping is so good is more then enough reason to pick Necro over Mesmer.
