Question Question for older players

My friend and I had another meaningless argument that ends with a bet.

Problem:

I'm saying that Obsidian armor used to require a lot more ecto's and shards (200-175 if I remember) but was changed so players can get it a lot easier.

My friend is saying the materials was always the same and I'm getting it confused with warrior armor (AKA, ones that require a head piece).

Who is right? If you can, give me a date please if there is one.

I'm playing from around july 2005 and never heard about the higher cost to obby armor then what it is atm.

The only upgrade it got was when the gear with insignia came out, which required extra materials like deldrimor steel for as good as I can recall it.

The amount of ecto's and shards stayed the same, the cost of ecto's went down... and for examples rangers don't have a headpiece so it will cost less for them as for warriors...

The crafting material needed has always been exactly the same.
The only reason why Obsidian Armour was more expenive back then was because of the prices of Ectos and Shards. From what i can still remember, Ectos were 12-15k each at the advent of GW.

The Insignia update did not change anything, it simplified the buying process (before you would have to scroll down and find the inherent modification to your liking). Now you can craft the same piece (except ze head) and modify it for yourself. This did not change the price or materials needed for Obsidian Armour.

Hope you won the bet.

You lost the bet, its just cheaper/easier to get now due to the price/easiness to farm of ectos.

I've been playing since fall of '05, so almost 4 years now. I don't remember the amount of materials needed changing, just the prices. Back then, one ecto was 15k+, and I'm sure they were higher before I saw. And I think shards were 5-8k.

Didn't monk armor require less or even no shards at first?

Not just monks. Necro used to have an armor option that didn't require shards either.

Back before insignia you had to choose the armor "type" when you made Obsidian armor.
The monk tattoos and necro scar patterens didn't require shards.

For those that don't know those armor types, it was extra energy, the same as adding radiant to armor today.
